Jasper 512 Bad Blocks In Nand
« on: July 20, 2011, 05:27:00 PM »

Hey guys

I got my first exploitable jasper today but am having trouble writing a working freeboot.
I'm using the aud_clamp and dvd_tray wiring. Xell/xellous seems to work fine, but freeboot freezes at the dash intro. I have bad blocks in my original NAND so pretty sure that's the problem, just can't get it working.

Here's what 360 flash tool says on my original NAND dump:

Note: Bad Block ID 0x013F [offset 0x0291f000]
Note: Bad Block ID 0x0184 [offset: 0x03204000]
Note: Bad Block ID 0x0185 [offset: 0x03225000]

-> Block ID 0x0185 found @ 0x1FD [offset: 0x0419D000]
-> Block ID 0x0184 found @ 0x1FE [offset: 0x041BE000]

I've dumped the NAND several times and get the same bad blocks. When dumping the NAND it only gave 1 error:
Error 202 programming c28

I made a freeboot 13146 image using jtag tool with this nand, and got the "dashboard stuck at intro" error.
Did a little reading online, and did some remapping of freeboot in nandpro by moving blocks 184 to 1fe and 185 to 1fd. I probably did something wrong because that didn't work either. I've tried to look online as much as I could but can't get my head around it, so would appreciate some input.

thanks

by the way I'm unable to update from xellous, it detects the usb drive but doesn't update. i've turn off the xbox power supply for a while, tried again but no luck. changed usb ports, no go.
should i remap 0x013f to 1ff or am i totally off?

also i thought this was odd, i ran freeboot through 360 flash dump tool and got:

CB - 6723
CD - 6723
CE - 1888
CF patch 0 - 4532
CG patch 0 - 4532
CF patch 1 - 0
CG patch 1 - 0

normally isn't 13146 in one of the values above? or at least 7371?

i've put the cpu key in the tool and it shows my dvd key etc. so that's all fine

managed to get xell to update from USB, but it did not detect or remap any blocks, and still gives the same error - stuck at dash intro.

tried coolshrimps remap bad blocks tutorial on youtube ()
that did not work either sad.gif

Used a donor nand, injected my kv, made freeboot 13146 with jtag tool, flashed with xell, still not working (same problem).

remapped blocks 184 and 185 to 1fd and 1fe on freeboot based on donor nand. same problem, no change.  uhh.gif

Solved.

I had trouble programming block C28 on the NAND, so I did the following:

Made freeboot 13146 with JTAG tool using original NAND (with bad blocks), extracted block c28 from freeboot and wrote it to the reserve area of the console's NAND:

nandpro freeboot.bin: -r512 c28.bin c28 8
nandpro usb: -w512 c28.bin ff8 8

Did nothing about the bad blocks found in 360 flash dump tool, freeboot works fine smile.gif
