It's simple. Data is encrypted by a unique key before it leaves the dvd drive and decrypted by the motherboard.

So you have lost the key in the drive so now you have two options.

1) Fix the drive, send it to a expert for key recovery (me) , But it may not be possible to fix it so then.

2) Read the key from the motherboard with the jtag hack. You probably can't.  Only consoles made prior to June 19, 2009 that are still on dashboard v2.0.7371. or less then 7371 qualify for this solution so 99% sure thats not you.
