Update To 7371 Before Freeboot?
« on: December 31, 2010, 02:00:00 PM »

So I am getting ready to JTAG my first 360 and went ahead and bridged the U6T1 points as it was recommended I do as outlined here:

R6T3 alternative

I am now reading that it's recommended I also be on dash 7371 before installing freeboot. My 360 has kernel 4xxx. I am assuming that I can no longer perform official updates because the counter will fail to increment? Am I hosed in trying to mod this xbox? I think it would be a disaster if I tried to remove the solder from those two points I bridged.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You can't update to 7371 without unbridging, you should not need to do the update, just continue with your hack as normal.

In  the future i do suggest you update to 7371 then remove efuse resistor or bridge points.

Well because I am anal about it and I am trying to get this first one perfect, I desoldered the bridged points, tested for continuity and then held my fingers while I updated it to 7371. It worked, so I am gonna bridge the two points again now.

I will definitely be doing this to the rest of them from now on.

Thanks

Yeah, i don't know why you were worried about unbridging the points. That is really easy. Even easier then bridging them was.

I am just really worried that I am going to screw something up on this first one. I am still waiting for my flasher to arrive so I am all paranoid in the mean time.

While you are waiting dig up some junk electronics device and tear out a circuit board and practice your soldering skills. This will help you make sure you wont mess anything up with the soldering work.

Ranger72: I have actually been doing that already (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). I have a burned out 360 board that I have been practicing on. I actually actually messed around with the JTAG connection points on it before I wired up the current one and messed around with the R6T3 points as well on it.

I have been doing soldering for awhile with the old xbox and now have some under my belt with the 360's. Those little points were just freaking me out is all. I thought for sure I was gonna burn a trace trying to remove the solder but it turned out OK.
