I have ordered a new xbox slim and now I am ready to to mod my old xbox.
THis questions is with regard to a few questiosn i have about protecting my xbox.

1. When I turn on my xbox, sometimes it asks to be updated.
I think it's dashboard update.. can I update the dashboards in the future? or do i not want to update my dash at all??

2.  when some games run, sometimes it asks for updates
I think it's update specific for the game.  Are these updates safe?

3. anything I need to watch out for?

Also worth it to put what you are trying to do with your old Xbox 360. You want to use it as a JTAG'd console or use it for LT+ to play backups?

If your idea is to use LT+ you are safe to update any dashboard. Also yes if you launch a game and it asks to update those are called Title Updates (TU). These are safe to accept as well, just make sure you flash it with LT+ which there is many tutorials around here.

And if you want to use that old Xbox for a JTAG'd console, DO NOT update it at all.

My question relates to this topic and I would be grateful to anyone that could help me.


 First, a bit of info:

-I believe the drive is a BenQ, but I can verify what drive it is, if needed.
-I had it flashed in early 09 and then got caught in the MW2 banhammer.
-I have no problems with it banned, I have a second Xbox for all my online games so this one is completely offline.
-Whatever flash I have allows me to play wave 3 games fine, but I have to insert the activate iso boot disc for anything after.
-Since my console is banned I don’t run anything through ABGX anymore.
-I now have the new console update (AP 2.5). It installed when I inserted NFS: Hot Pursuit, which doesn’t play, but Fable 3 still does.

Now, for my questions:

-I’m tired of using the boot disc, can the console be flashed to the newest version AND still allow me to play the backups I have that have not been run through ABGX (basically every game from MW2 onwards)? I’m not willing to go back and burn every game all over again.
-Will I be able to play the new games with AP 2.5 protection, such as NFS?
