Looking To Update To Freeboot .32
« on: November 06, 2010, 12:29:00 AM »

You should be able to update from XBR, if freeboot toolbox completes then it worked. So don't worry about donor nands unless you run into trouble.

You can tell if you have a jasper by looking at the power connector.

So dump your nand with flash360, build freeboot, flash comple freeboot.bin with flash360.
It really is that easy.

Thanks! So it looks like I have a Jasper like he said, but aren't there three types of Jasper with different amount of onboard memory (16MB, 256MB, and 512MB if I'm not mistaken)? Will that matter when flashing with the freeboot I make?

Yes it will matter but FreeBOOT toolbox will auto-detect. Flash360 will auto-detect too so you will notice the file size of your dump. You can simply check your memory on the 360 to see what you have too.

Yea I see on Flash360 that it's a Jasper 16mb. Unfortunately I'm getting an error when I go to backup the NAND there. It's says "ERROR: Reading block DE status 204"

It gets to 100% but when I put it in freeboot toolbox, that gives me an error too saying "Your dump has not been properly extracted"

Time to look for a donor NAND now or am I completely screwed? sad.gif

You are very lucky to have a 16mb jasper! Everyone hates bigblock nands.

It is normal to have a few bad blocks. You only have one.
You might have to follow the read me that comes with FreeBOOT .32 and manually build the image.
It sure is a pain and i am not walking you through that. Too bad the Bestpig tool doesn't always work.

Hehe I was so excited that I forgot to post my success. Thanks for the help! biggrin.gif

Congrats, but you are supposto to say how you resolved it so if someone else reads this thread it might help them too. Did you just follow the readme and do a manual build?

"EDIT: Just tried backing up the NAND again, still got the first error in Flash360 but the freeboot toolbox made the freeboot.bin no problem this time. I'm gonna try updating now."

I think I had a box checked that I shouldn't have in the toolbox the first time I tried to make the freeboot. The second time worked fine tho and I updated successfully.
