Jtag / Dashboard Update Question

Hi Guys,

I've got a quick question with regards to jtags and updating, currently i've got some xbox's with dashboard 2858 and 6717, when i do the Jtag, can i use the latest Freeboot or should i update the dashboard first?

Also once i've done the jtag and removed the fuse, how do you go about updating the xbox? can you just run normal updates or do you have to update freeboot before you run a microsoft update?

1st thing i do is update to dash 7371

Once you have disabled the efuse's you will no longer be able to get updates from Microsoft you will just keep using future versions of FreeBOOT.

Ok thanks,

With the updates through freeboot, am i right in assuming that when you do the freeboot update it already contains the "core" dashboard updates, I've come across people mentioning running the microsoft update afterwards for avatar files etc, is that all fine to do with the efuse disabled?

Running the 9199 update to get the avatar support is only when you swap out hard drives. Partition2 of the hard drive is magically unreadable to some degree and the 9199 update puts those files back in there so you can see your avatar. Its pretty common usually when updating to the latest freeboot and/or swapping out hard drives.

One last question now, the xbox that had dashboard 2858, ive tried doing the 7371 update to it and i'm now getting "update failed"

Now i do not have a hard drive for the xbox, will that be why its telling me it's failed?

The lowest I have done was in the 4552 range and i didn't  update to 7371 and their were no ill effects. The 2858 you are seeing is not your dash version, your dashboard is 6717. Updating to 7371 won't hurt you but you don't have to do it.

When you say you get update failed..is that after it boots into the dashboard? And did your dashboard change to an NXE dash or did it stay the same?

I would just dump the nand a couple times load Xell on it to get your CPU key and build a fresh freeBOOT image.  Removing R6T3 is always recommended after you have updated and after doing the mod, but you can also bridge a point U6T2 or if U6T2 is populated U6T1 can be bridged, in either case bridge pins 2 and 3 together with solder and you can easily un-bridge them to let something burn an efuse.
