Jtag Help!
« on: August 25, 2010, 02:38:00 PM »

Ok, so this is kind of a long story so bare with me.

I Installed the jtag hack and an lpt port adaptor onto my xenon moterboard acording to this diagram:

I couldnt detect my box for a while through the LPT port and found that removing the 100 OHM resistors made it work like a charm. So I dumped my nand 2 times, but the tutorial I was following left out the fact that i needed to compare the two dumps. So my foolish self used the first of the two dumps to make my XBR.bin and flashed my nand. Then when i went to boot up the console I got the e74 error, so I compared the dumps and found that there was a 1 block difference. At this point my heart dropped because I thought forsure it was a bad flash and I had lost my original nand forever! However, I reflashed the nand with the first dump I had made and to my astonishment my 360 booted up to the original dash! Ok, so heres where the questions come in:

1. Since I flashed my nand back to the orignal with the first nand dump, dosn't that mean it was a proper dump?

2. If it is a proper dump and I'm in luck, what was the reason for the e74 error?

3. I've found a different diagram for wireing the jtag (see below) to the xenon board that requires x3 330ohm resistors and the jtag wireing is slightly different, Is it possible that I need to use this method instead? If so does that mean I only got e74 because the jtag hack wasnt in place when i tried to boot the nex xbr.bin? Is it a problem that I don't have 330ohm resistors on the jtag? (even though the diagram dosnt have them)

Ok, since I flashed the nand back to what I think (hope, pray, beg) is the original I've done another dump but this one was 13 blocks different then the first one. Im doing another dump as we speak, but I really need some help guys!

Grab a length of wire, and attach one end to the metal chassis of your PC, hook the other end up to the metal chassis of your 360 (or attach it to one of the copper ground pads that go around the screw holes in the motherboard). You've got a floating ground issue.

So If i ground it out it will help with the dump? But is the one I have already a valid original dump since it booted?

Yep - the problem with floating grounds is it spikes the data at random times - so you could have one good read, then 30 bad writes etc.

Thanks so much for the help, one more quick question. Im doing this from a laptop, so can i ground the 360 to a spare desktop and flash it from the laptop? or does the ground need to go from the 360 to the device flashing it? And was the e74 error just from a bad flash then?

Had one of the diodes on the jtag soldered upside down, alls well now! One question though, my dvd drive is shot on this console, is there any other ways to install xexmenu and freestyle dash?
