Xenon With No Original Nand Boots Up With Xell.
« on: August 13, 2010, 06:59:00 AM »

Ok, so I've just bought a Xenon console with NO original NAND but it boots up with Xell and I have the CPU key.

What would be the procedure for installing Freeboot on the console?

Would I need a donor Xenon nand?

If so would anyone be able to supply me such a nand, I would be most grateful.

Many Thanks you guys

Yes, you'll need donor files to create the freeboot image. Look at the XBR->Freeboot topic, donor files are available there.

That's great, is it possible to reflash the rebuilt nand without having to solder the JTAG cable? Via USB perhaps?

if its xell, not xellous that's installed: burn the debian 360 live cd, put xbrflash and your rebuilt image on a usb drive, flash via linux.

if xellous is installed (httpd listen, not http in xell)
then just place your rebuilt image on a usb drive as updflash.bin, boot into xellous and it will auto flash

alternatively, if you have xell -> you could wire up the lpt device just to flash xellous, which is quick. then use xellous to flash your rebuilt image via usb.

Flash360 is easier to update Xell to Xellous:

Rename xell-2f.bin to updslot0.bin and place in the root of your USB drive or stick
In flash360 press button B (write update area of rebooter)
Then button A (write updslot0.bin (Xell) )

Then just create your FreeBoot.bin, rename to 'updflash.bin', pop it in the root of your USB stick and watch it go (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Right, the console seems to boot up Xell fine and I have noted down a copy of the CPU key. (Upon pressing the eject button to power up the console)

Powering up from the normal power switches gives Christmas Lights (Flashing Red and Green). Can I confirm that this is down a corrupted NAND?

Sort of congrats wink.gif Chrimbo lights = bad KV

Basically you need FreeBoot 0.30 not 0.32 - reason being is that you haven't got the original KV for the console, and FreeBoot 0.32 doesn't support KV swapping, whereas FreeBoot 0.30 does.

Rebuild your NAND with FreeBoot 0.30 and see if that does the trick - if you need a donor KV, give me a pm.

Cheers for that mate, is there a link to a tutorial that shows me how to make a Freeboot 0.30 image from a donor NAND?

What program do I need to use to construct the new image with my box's CPU key?

[I have Debian Live running and I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have any issues flashing over a constructed image!]

Many Thanks,

Just had a thought (as I'm not a KV swapper) - I think Xenons can swap KV's on FreeBoot 0.32 - might be wrong though.........

Sent you a pm - like I said, with the image I've made it may not work due to fuse-set differences (that one's 1921), if not it's a matter of building an XBR image (ie zeropaired) for the console with the donor KV, then creating a FreeBoot using the smc from XBR.

Cheers you guys you've been a massive help, although i've just realised something. I think the guy who sold me this console has lied to me. I bought it thinking it was a Xenon but I've just checked the power connector at the back...

XBOX 360 Types

My Console has the middle connector and is non-HDMI. Plus the MFR date is 20th March 2006? How can this be??? The little piece of plastic at the back is missing and the powerpack is rated 203 W. wtf? Is this right?

I'm guessing my console must be an Opus! Not the Xenon that he told me it was, I should've checked really...

What should I do now? Am I screwed without my original keyvault? Should I send it back?

EDIT: False Alarm, this console is definitely a Xenon it has a 203W PSU.

Silly questions, if I flash over XBR via Debian I'll lose Xell right?

It's an Opus - to all intents and purposes treat it like a Xenon - they take Xenon made bootloaders etc so you're ok.

XBR has Xell built in, so you shouldn't lose Xell - if you do, then it's LPT/USB time. If you do bork up, send me the console and I'll sort it out for you if you cover postage smile.gif
