Xenon Jtag Nand Dump Advice.
« on: August 08, 2010, 02:28:00 PM »

Hi Guys,

Just got my hands on Xenon xbox with dash 7371.  Never done a jtag before so have been reading up on it for the past week.  Today I made the lpt cable with optional diode and soldered it to my xbox.  Worked first time with nandpro20e and dumped the nand.  I have made 4 dumps so far and im just doing another one.

The reason for this is that Nand dump 1 when compared to dump 2 gave 1 bad block at 201.

Dump 3 and Dump 1 had 0 bad blocks.

But dumps 3 and 2 had the bad block at 201.  So I guess dump 2 is bad.

So i decided to make sure by making a 4th dump, this dump had 5 errors compared to dump 1 and 3.  It has 6 errors compared to dump 2.

So is it safe to assume dumps 1 and 3 are good, 2 and 4 are bad??

I dont understand why the 4th dump is way out, as i havnt changed anything with the hardware, i havn't even moved it.

Is it safe to carry on the jtag assuming dumps 1 and 3 are good? I used Nand and Reconstruction Tool V1.2 to compare the nand dumps.

Thnaks.

*update*

Dump 5, seems good.  Compared it to dumps 1 and 3, no errors at all.  1 error with dump 2 and 5 erros with dump 4.

I've now hit mayjor issues!!!

I looked at my nand dumps in a hex editor and saw microsoft corp bit at the beginning, used a compare tool to check it matched the other good dumps and no problems.

I then flashed the xell image to xbox, upon booting xbox with eject button Im getting blank screen, using standard av, blinking green light, after about 30 seconds 3 red rings appear.

Anything I can check?

Just flashing nandbackup.bin to xbox now to see if it will boot, one question, do i have to remove jtag wires to boot original nand?

thanks

upon writing the original dump, its saying there are write errors starting at 200.  Does this indicate wiring problems on the lpt connections or is the original dump rubbish?

I have disconnected power from xbox and left it 5 mins, also rebooted pc.  Original nand flashed to xbox and it boots fine, with jtag connection still in place.  But when I flash xell all I get is black screen, tv detects something is connected, and 3rrod after about 30 seconds. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Either short the 2 pins on the nand (cant remember which ones do a search) and it will spring back to life. So you can write/flash the nand again.

There is also a method for soldering extra voltage to the chip for recovery somewhere but ive never needed it so far.

Or just keep trying it. It should eventually wake up.

Easier way - don't quite have your PSU plugged into the back of the 360. Type your command line in NandPro, and as you hit enter, push the PSU into the 360's socket. Tat should free up your NAND - repeat if not sucessful as it'll work.

Don't solder any external power or bridge pins on the NAND, just try the above method.

Also I reckon you're having a floating ground problem - attach a wire from the metal chassis of your PC to the metal chassis (or one of the copper ground pads around the screw holes) on the 360. This is effecting your NAND reading and writing, and you shouldn't really have proceeded when your still getting these problems. You NEED to run your NAND dumps through Degraded/360 Flash Tool 0.94 to check the bad blocks and whether the've been reallocated.

Finally got around to having another go at this, tested lpt cable with mutlimeter, all is good.  Connected ground wire from PC to screw hole on xbox motherboard, checked with multimeter.  Tried the plug half in method, but still cant see nand.  I dont know what to try now.  Any ideas guys?

Sometimes when I run nadnpro it turns on the 360. But still blank screen, green flashing light.  The eject button turns on the 360, so does the IR remote control.

Just cant see the nand.  Any help/advice would be great.

Thanks.

As mentioned above, if your continuity is good and your nand still isn't recognized, do this:

Short pins 29-32 with a piece of wire

I quickly skimmed the thread so sorry if this has already been said, but did you check the CB version? I bought a "Jtag-able" off of eBay a couple weeks back and it was doing the exact same thing yours was (I hadn't bothered checking the CB since I thought they seller already would have done that). Turned out the CB was patched so it couldn't boot into Xell.  sad.gif

thanks for the advice, unfortunately its still not detected by nandpro.  I've even replaced all the wires, resistors and the diode on the lpt cable, tested each pin on the lpt to the conection on the board, measured resistance all is fine.

There does appear to be 2 states the xbox is in.  When I short the pins on the nand is goes completely unresponsive, wont turn on from power or eject button.  But if i then short the pins again, the second set of pins mentioned in the tutorial, it the powers on but only to green flashing power light and no av output.

Any ideas?
