Is it possible to safely upgrade dashboard from 8955 to 9199?
I have an xbox with original dashboard version 8955 which only it's drive's firmware is hacked, It's not JTAGed or anything.
I want to update to the new dashboard with a USB stick and not with live. Is upgrading in such a state dangerous?
Please, help me, I'm totally new to this stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

No? if iisnt banned yet, you'd be fine updating via LIVE. If M$ is going to ban you they would do it whenever they want if you connect to live. If you update offline via usb and connect to live you'd still run the same risk as updating from LIVE.

I don't connect to live period, that's my policy, but I don't want anything to go wrong during and after the dashboard update via USB . Could I presume it's safe then?
Your help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

if you are flagged; you are flagged. and you get banned the next time you get online as has already been said in this post.

but; if you never go online, it doesn't matter if you are (getting) banned or not (since you only play offline). updating the dashboard always imposes some sort of a risk, you are updating files on your nand. so if you have a power fall out during the upgrade you might be screwed. but not sure if that has ever happened to anyone. so it is almost 100% safe to update (off course; if you are flagged you will get banned. but that doesn't seem to be an issue for you). thus, go ahead.

thanks dennisv9, I updated the dashboard no problems, I even checked my X number against my serial with Xval and the secdata was clean
