Need Help With Recently Jtag'd E79 Error & 1 Red Light
« on: May 28, 2010, 09:59:00 AM »

I just jtag'd my elite and everything was running fine, but I realised that I'd forgotten to put the fan duct back in place when putting the console back together, so took it apart again and put it back together but then I got one red light and an E79 error message.  Checked my soldering (admittedly the DB1F1 wasn't great in the first place), but seems fine.  I used the NAND-X jtag kit for the installation, so can turn it on and off, but I still get the same issue.  Does anyone know if this is a common issue when jtagging or what I can do about it?

Thanks

Hi,
Double check your jtag wires, chances are that if it was running ok then your connections are not good.
try resoldering if that does not work, change your diodes as occaisionally they can get damaged.
Cheers

I've tried resoldering everything and changed the diodes that came with the NAND-X install kit, but still no luck sad.gif

Managed to fix it after quite a while spent repositioning the DB1F1 point.

Aaaargh... went to turn it on this morning and everything was fine.  Had to turn it on and off a few time in fact, as I was having a couple of issues with my gamesaves and profile.  However, it is now RRODing on me mad.gif .  Related or just coincidence do you think?

Edit:
Now it's working again - I don't know if it just overheated, because I haven't really been taxing it this morning (it was on all night a couple of days ago and was fine).  Might look into watercooling or at least better fans.

to be honest if you played it for like two hours without the fan duct you could have done damage to the system it might not be a bad idea to completely clean it and remove the motherboard and reseat it remove heatsinks etc i would also apply artic silver and replace the ms paste. these things can get very hot especially without the fan duct...when you reassemble be careful to evenly tighten all the screws do not go one at a time and make sure the motherboard is properly seated by holding it down with ur fingers and inserting the rf modulator... there hopefully this helps you...

I had planned on giving it a complete watercooling overhaul, but am a bit short on cash at the moment as I need to save up for a deposit on a new flat in July.  Besides, I've opened and closed the case so many times in the past couple of days that I just can't be bothered at the moment rolleyes.gif .  Incidentally, what is a decent temp for the CPU?  I checked on XeXMenu and it said 51.5C, which is obviously almost idle, but didn't seem too bad.  Could I expect a watercooling setup to improve things if I also aimed to reduce the noise of the fans?
