Launch Xex From Usb Device ?
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:10:00 AM »

hi,

I is it possible to launch an XEX or a PIRS like XEXMenu from anything other than a DVD or Official MS HDD ?
Like a USB Drive or Memory Unit ?

I have spent ages searching & cannot find a clear answer to my question.

Thanks, let me know if you can find the TUT. I have spent hours looking with no solid info.
BTW i should have mentioned, I don't have an official MS HDD or Memory Unit.
All i have is a USB HDD & USB memory stick & my JTAG 360 is running Freeboot 0.32 (running latest dash)
So far the only way i can run XEXMenu is off a DVD.

As you know...the answer is YES!

HOW you do it, well....most of the time, when you get the rar file, there is a read me file that can explain to you how to do this.

The one that I have been using off my my external HDD is freestyle Dash. Pretty cool one to be honest. I dont like the file manager, but for everything else IMO, is pretty damn cool. I will give you the way to do this since Im running that one. This is right off the readme from this dash. So here ya go!

QUOTE

Copy the "freestyle" folder into the root of USB0: or HDD1

Copy the proper boot package to hdd1:\Content\0000000000000000\C0DE9999\00007000\ to have it show in the NXE Dashboard.
          o freestyle-usb - package to boot freestyle from usb0:\freestyle\freestyledash.xex

NOW...you can try to use this and change up xexmenu but I havent had the time to mess around with it. But like I said, try off freestyle Dash, you just might use this one a lil more. LOL! Hope this helped ya a bit!

did you format your usb drive with your 360 and has it got your profile on it? if it has there is 2 ways of getting it on there, 1.play it off the dvd then using ftp transfer the file from your pc to the location stated in the read me 2. plug your usb stick into your pc then using an explorer program put the file in the location. I used method 1 not sure about method 2 just guessing you can do it that way. p.s if you do use method 1 make sure your xbox can't connect to the internet just in case.

This tut http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=707289 is for the mu but usb will be the same

I can confirm that #2 works. Thats what I did. But most of the time you WILL have to copy a folder to the 360 HDD in the 0000000000000 folder so you can see in in the main dashboard.
