I have a Falcon 360 which has been jtagged by a mate of mine.

I sent it to him to install the wiring and I received it yesterday but it has an annoying problem.

Every so often it will get three red lights (error code 0020) but if I leave it off for 10 minutes it will boot fine. If I go to turn it off then back on again, it will show RLOD again. waiting 10mins seems to let it boot again :s

After reading around the forums and getting advise elsewhere, It seems it might be not having a 330ohm resistor between the 4 and 7 point. I didn't install the wiring and it's all located under the motherboard but I trust my mates handy work but he did say a resistor was not installed and I heard some people say they fixed random errors when this was installed.

Could it be that's the problem?

Potentially, yes. Turn it on and off about 10 or 15 times. No need to wait 10 minutes, just a few moments. If it shows the RRoD more than twice then I would install the resistor. Before I installed it in all of mine they would RRoD about 1/4th of the time. Now they never do.

OK Thanks. I was trying that (powering on and off)  for about 15 so so times and it would still mostly give RLOD, always same error code aswell 0020.

But once its running, It works until I power it off.

I will see if I can get this resistor installed this week.

I know 2 other people with this issue, only 1 of them has tried adding the 330 ohm resistor, but it did solve the problem for him.

Hmm that's weird. Some are saying with the resistor in place it managed to fix the random three red lights.

The last Falcon you did for me FIB3R didn't have this problem and I'm certain you didn't install the resistor anyway but it worked great until it broke on me.

Obviously it is in your hands now so you should get it tomorrow and hopefully it can fix this problem for me. I know not everyone can get this working. I also heard using a 470 ohm worked aswell for someone when they also tried a 330ohm resistor that failed.

It's weird how some are getting this problem on falcons and others are not.

I install lower value resistors than 330 - try a 100Ohm or even a 20Ohm. I had it one Falcon but once the resistor was fitted it went away.

You used lower than 330? hmm. I know there was a solution thread posted here about this resistor being placed on the jumper wire to fix the problem but not everyone has been successful.

FIB3R should get my falcon box tomorrow so I will find out from him if he had any luck....Or he replies in this very thread smile.gif

FIB3R has tried both 100 ohm and 330ohm resistors without luck, same problem sad.gif

Is it worth trying a 470ohm?

If it is not the resistor, What else could it be?

What diodes are you using?

I didn't install the wiring so I really don't know.

I will ask FIB3R when I speak to him. He might be able to tell you himself.

Having pros with IRC atm signum (damn you sh3llz)

Anyway, I've used 1N4148 diodes on all boxes I've done to date.

That's what I use, so it's not the value of diode  uhh.gif

How was it flashed? USB or LPT? Is it worth using Flash360 and redoing XBR with it (if it was LPT)?

Originally flashed via LPT, has since been flashed with Flash360 by signum and again multiple times by me, via USB.

I'm really starting to think it's an issue with XBR and/or Falcons that only have memory chips on top of the board, not on both sides. Would be happy (sort of) if somebody could disprove that. I really want to get to the bottom of this.

FIB3R just managed to acquire a 470ohm resistor last night and it worked!! no more RROD!

Sweet happy days.
