if it's a Pre-NXE with 2.0.7XXX or earlier it should be Jtagable.

I just got a Jasper 512MB unit that's Pre-NXE and it's manufacture date is 10-15-2009.

and it has 2.0.7XXX on it as well..

It doesn't have the old blade dashboard. It has the newer one. So I guess it's a no go?

Nope - It should be good to go (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

What you need to do is dump the NAND a few times for backup, and open in Degraded to check the CB, although unless the consoles an MS refurb, it's highly likely that you can JTAG a 7351 kernel.

Excellent. I'll give it a go. If it isn't jtag ready will it damage the xbox by trying? Think I'm going to do a lot of reading this week and use the weekend to try this mod out. I really appreciate the help guys. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).

unless I am highly mistaken.. I was under the impression that as long as it's got a Dash/Kernel that is 2.0.7XXX or lower you are good to go with a JTAG.

I just pre-ordered a Cygnos V2 Rev. F that's made for the 256/512MB NANDs...

Yopu are indeed highly mistaken - some 7371's have updated bootloader rendering the current SMC/JTAG hack useless, and there's been a couple of cases with lower kernels that have been refurbed by M$ with an updated bootloader (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

@Tander_ZA:

So long as you get at least 3 good NAND dumps and verify them (Degraded, 360 Flash Tool Hex compare), even if your CB is unexploitable (and you'll know by checking the NAND dumps) and you JTAG it, you can still restore the original NANDs without borking your 360.

Okay I will make sure of that first. Oh do I have to do the dvd firmware mod as well in order to play my backups? Via the dvd drive? If so, which mod do I do first, jtag or the dvd? I assume the latter but wanna confirm. Thank you:)

You do need the drive flashed, or the 360 DVD drive will act the same as an unflashed one. I'd wait till you've JTAG'd, then you'll be able to boot Xell, grab your CPU key and decrypt your keyvault, showing you your drive type and DVD key. Then even if you bork flashing your drive, you'll have all the info there to restore a working drive to your 360.

Also I would have a look at Sabbathdude's thread on efuse protection whilst you have the 360 out of it's case:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=706121

Do this, and if you accidently update the 360 (via a game etc), your efuse set is protected and all you'd have to do is reflash the NAND with XBR. If you don't protct the efuses, then you may accidently remove the ability for the 360 to run the JTAG hack (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

You've got to dump the NAND (or part of it that contains the CB info of your 360). Have a look here:

http://www.eurasia.nu/wiki/index.php/Xbox360Kernel

And scroll down to the Timing attack/JTAG/SMC part - it shows a list of the unexploitable CB's (although all you really need to know are the CB's that the JTAG/SMC hack won't work on).

So it's:

These 2BL(CB) versions are patched so the JTAG/SMC Hack no longer working: (4BL(CD) = 8453 for all of them)

   Xenon: 1922, 1923, 1940, 7373

   Zephyr: 4571, 4572, 4578, 4579, 4580

   Falcon/Opus: 5771

   Jasper: 6750

Don't confuse these with dash/kernel revisions, these are the CB values that you'll be presnted with if you open your NAND dump in Degraded/360 Flash Tool.

Thwack, you're an amazing help, thanks! Also what would you say is the best guide out there for this mod? I have seen loads that have different ways of doing it?

These two for the initial setup of XBR:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=700442

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=698328

Both are great - Roamin's give more info on the setup of the LPT cable (and remember the DB-25 connector shown in the diagrams is the rear of the connector - the pins you solder the wires to if you're building a cable from scratch), and Grim's is great for installing XBR on all size NANDs.

If you run into read/write difficulties, check my troubleshooting tut in my sig below.

The switching diodes (1 for LPT, 2 for JTAG), don't definitly need to be 1N4148's, you can use other 1N SD's (this will make more sense after you've had a look at the tuts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

Keep your LPT cable short, you need the PSU plugged into the 360 when dumping the NAND (but don't power on the 360!). Be patient when first NAND dumping, if it doesn't work you'll get there in the end - some PC's need resistors, some don't etc.

I'd start with the tuts above, then have a look in the tuts section here:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=700291

All the XBR stuff is available from the usual places (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I know I've said it before - but the most important bit to doing this is patience - don't rush anything. Make sure your soldering is good, and make sure you have good NAND backups should anything go wrong.
