Guys,

I've been looking in many places about this. But nowhere could I find any firsthand info about my problem.

I've got a JTAGged (XBRv3) Jasper 256MB with R6T3 still attached.
I'm having problems with my avatars showing as shadows.

I wanted to know 2 things:

1. can I safely update my box e.g. with offline 7371 dash update (includes avatars, last update before 'fatal' kernel change)

2. Most important - I know I can't use my Jasper's IMU as a storage as it may damage my box after JTAGging  - question is, if I keep my profiles on XboxHDD will the update be stored/installed on XboxHDD and not IMU?

3. I tried copying the files manually from my friends HDD (who's got the avatar update already installed) but it didn't work - any other ways to solve this?

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance!

Can't tell you specifics about avatar update, I don't know what all the hubbub is all about, I see avatars just fine on my console with XBR3, but I can tell you that if you remove R6T3, then you don't have to worry about bricking your console with any update.  There's really no good reason NOT to remove it.

Well, the problem is, that I moved profile content from my original xbox hdd to new hdd, formated under XBR.

The new hdd has no avatar content. Hence my old profiles with avatars have problems, since no necessery file are found on the hdd (The avatar files are kept on HDD and are not part of kernel update).

Moving the files manually from old HDD didn't solve the problem - hence my question in the first place.

As for R6T3 - I kept it for any future XBR updates.

Since XBR uses virtual fuses you won't need the ability to burn fuses to update to the latest XBR, ever. To be on the safe side, you really should either remove R6T3 or do the alternate solder bridge. I did the alternate method and found it to be very easy. I have some soldering experience, but I'm not a pro by any means. As for getting avatars back, find the 8955 + avatars update (google for it, I don't have a link handy), put it on a flash drive, and run it FROM WITHIN THE LATEST XBR!!! Very important, especially if your 360 can still burn fuses. The update will see that you're already on the 8955 kernel (XBR) and only add avatars to your hard drive. I have done this myself.

But have you done it with a big block Jasper console? That is where the problem arises...or so they say.

Sorry, I guess I missed that part. No, I haven't done it on a BB Jasper. I believe I read about a method to force avatar installation to the hard drive instead of the internal memory unit, tho. From what I read it seems that as long as you don't format the internal memory unit after the installation of XBR it won't try to use it. I'm not sure if that would work if you've ever used it before XBR tho. Sorry guys.

Do you have a link to the article on HDD installation?

Yes!! I had the same fears as you. Still had R6T3 in place on my Jasper 512. I was actually stuck in a loop with the update from Mass Effect 2 but it turned out to be a problem with disc 1 so I tried disc 2 and all was good. All it did was the avatar update and that's all.

If disc 2 did the same I was going to do the fall '09 update via the usb method which should give the same result. That is, it will see that you're already at 8955 and will just add the avatars. I still have 453mb of internal memory showing so it obviously went onto the hdd.
