Xbr3, Eject Is Broken, How Do I Boot Xell?
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:44:00 PM »

Jtag'ed and flashed my old rrod Xenon with XBR3 after repairing it, and almost everything works fine.  However, during the repair (and before the jtag/flash) I must have scratched a trace or something (I can't see anything anywhere, spent hours looking), because the eject button does nothing, and it won't power on from the button on the front.  It will happily power up via a controller, and I have ftp'd games to the hdd, which I start with Quickboot containers, and they're all working happily.  I can eject the tray via the dashboard, or with a paper clip (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif), but not via the button.  I swapped the ring of lights board with one from another console, but still no power on from the front button, so I don't think that part is damaged, it's just something small on the board somewhere.  I was going to ignore the problem, except that I want to get my cpu key, and as the only way I've read of starting Xell is powering on via the eject button, which I can't do, I'm stuck.

I tried the older method (wired controller in rear usb port), but that just boots to a black screen and does nothing.  I don't have a proper wired controller though, used wireless + play&charge cable, but I read someone confirming that that had worked for them.

Is there any other way I can get Xell to boot, or is my cpu key trapped forever? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Unfortunately you didn't try the 'older method' you just tried the 'wireless controller with play and charge method' which is no different from the 'wireless controller method' which still doesn't boot up Xell.

When you say not the tray won't open with the button, are you talking about the plastic external button assembly for the DVD Eject or the actual switch?  If you can press in the (I think blue) switch button and it opens the DVD drive, the problem is with how you've seated the button assembly (silver piece with pro and up models, white with arcade) or it has been broken.  If it doesn't clip firmly in place you might want to switch it out.

It's the switch itself, or more likely the connection behind it. It clicks when pushed with a pen or whatever, it's physically fine, but it doesn't do anything.

I'm aware different people have reported different results using a play and charge cable, but it does behave differently (black screen) to turning it on with the wireless controller, or while connected to the front usb ports (normal start).

That's strange.  Perhaps if the battery is in a low-charge state and it draws current, it might mimic the wired controller's trigger for Xell close enough to boot it.  There is no data sent over the USB cable for the Play and Charge kit so that's my only explanation.

You might try shorting the two pins for the switch under the board to be sure its the switch and not a cut trace or small solder bridge.  If the drive opens when shorting the pins, you can get a replacement switch and swap it out.

Shorting the pins does nothing, I'm pretty sure it's a trace somewhere, but my electronics skills aren't high enough for me to spot it.  Is there no other way to boot Xell?  Like off a cd or something?

You could (if you've still got your LPT wiring connected) flash XBR v.1 over to the NAND, then boot from the controller in the rear USB port.

This is what I did as I have the same problem. Some douche jammed the hell out of the eject button and it's clearly broken on the motherboard....

Where could I find a replacement button though?

How to boot xell w/o eject button:

1)Go to dash and eject dvd rom out.
2)Turn off xbox but with dvd rom drive sticking fully out.
3)Turn on xbox from the power button of the xbox, !! Make sure dvd rom drive is pulled all the way out and staying fully out.
4)Keep the drive out till xell is boot.
5)Enjoy. XD

ddxcb :

Unfortunately, I can't power on with the power button either, the controller is the only way I can turn this xbox on, and using that with the drive tray out (and holding it out, as it tries to close when I power it back on), doesn't work, unfortunately.  It just boots to the normal NXE dash.

You can just use the xex flasher to flash xellous over ur current flash and power ur xbox on with the controller and you will be able  get ur cpu key and all of that. then just reflash xbr with xellous via usb

I hope that works for you.

I liked this idea, but I can't seem to get it to work.  Renamed xell-1f.bin as updslot0.bin and flashed it with flash360, powered it off for 30 seconds, powered it on and it rebooted back into the dash.

I chose xell-1f.bin since it had the earlier loading address and I assumed it would over write the xbr loader, and boot straight into xellous, but no dice.

So my next idea was to use this guide http://docs.google.c...mv5h_186pp2zddm
and flash the free60.bin.  but flash360 doesn't seem to flash from block 0, unless you're flashing the entire nand.  Do I need to take my free60.bin and inject it into my nand backup, and flash that?

the problem is XBR3 uses freeboot system so either u use anything below 3 or just use xell only. just do what i did in the video.
