Problem Running Xbr On A Zephyr
« on: February 04, 2010, 05:51:00 PM »

so i dumped the orig nand,no problems.
injected the KV in XBR_Zephyr_8955_3b,downloaded from xbins, and wrote it with nandpro.

now, every time the console boots,it gives me RROD,secondary error code 0020.

if i remove the JTAG wires,it gives me an e79.

it did boot about 2 times, but that happened almost in 20-30 on/off cycles.

all the soldering is flawless,i am not a noob.

is there anybody that knows what's wrong?

damn you must got lucky on a zephyr 1 in 5 chances of an exploitable CB
im sure you checked that right since your no noob
exploitable Zephyr 4558
Unexploitable Zephyr: 4571, 4572, 4578, 4579

did u verify write ?
what i always do is just flash xbr3 stock , then read it and compare it to my stock xbr from x-bins
make sure write is 100% had a few bad writes on some boards

then i inject kv via nandpro

1/5 chance is assuming you have an equal likelihood of finding each CB, which most likely, you don't.  I'd guess that it is actually lower than 1/5th...

yeah,it's exploitable.
(IMG:http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/997/zephyrcb.th.jpg)

the really awkward thing is that the console actually booted 3 times (in maybe 8 hours lol) into xbr,but i dont know why it boots so damn hard.almost once in 30 power ups it boots into xbr, maybe even less.

i dont know what to do anymore.i flashed 3 versions of xbr, with one it wouldn't even turn on and nandpro would give the "could not detect flash controller".i had to short the pins on the nand chip to get it recognized again in nandpro.

i'm gonna dump it 2 times tomorrow, and see if it has any write erros.

i injected the KV into the xbr.bin, not into the nand via lpt.would this cause the error?

also,i read on other forums that by adding a 330ohm resistor to the jumper cable would fix this.any ideas this would work?
i dont know if this has anything to do with it,but i also removed the small resistor that causes the efuses to blow.any chances this has anything to do with this error?

thanks for the help so far.i was really looking forward to some homebrew, but it seems that there's no luck for me...

ok.i wont sleep tonight,im grabbing my iron and solder the lpt cable again.

so,you're recommending that i first write XBR_Zephyr_8955_3b unmodified via lpt,and then write kv.bin to it,also via lpt?
and what about the config.bin?should i NOT flash this?

From what I've gathered in other threads, XBR for zephyr is pretty buggy and people have the best success with XBR1 instead of 3.

Either way, good luck!

still not able to get it to work.
i flashed the nand countless times today.after i flash it,the first 5 minutes or so it boots,shows rrod,boots again,displays e79 or again,rrod (0020),then it boots,and after maybe 10 minutes since the nand flashing,it only displays 0020.

flashed xell and it also displays 0020,and the fans are spinning at max.

i'm running out of ideas here.i soldered a 330ohm resistor instead of the jumper cable, but that didn't work either.should i try a diode instead?

edit: this guy here has the same problem as me http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=4558219
xell wont load for me either, and the console performs exactly the same.

I've heard all the horror stories of Xephyr users with XBR...but just to be sure, have you tried doing a write verify to make sure that your image is being properly written to the NAND (you can get silent writer errors in NANDpro)

yes,i have.
i wrote an image,then read it back,and they had 0 non-matching blocks in NandCompare-v1.3

still it gave me 0020,even though it was written OK.

ok,this has me really puzzled.
i don't know if this is a major setback or breakthrough.

last night i was reading some message boards, about flashing a falcon xbr to a zephyr (namely these threads http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=702837 and http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...701330&st=0 )

i flashed XBR_Falcon_8955_3a with my kv and config.bin on my zephyr,and it boots,but again,displays 0020.
now the curious thing is that the box shouldn't turn on at all,but it does.

do you guys have any ideeas where to go from here?

if you guys flash another mb revision xbr to your console, does it turn on?

cause mine does.i've flashed a jasper and falcon xbr to it,and it turns on,but still displays 0020.is this normal?
i also flashed the original back on.if i had the jtag wires attached,it would show up 0020.again,i thought the console should not turn on.
can someone tell me if this is normal?
with the jtag removed, the console boots fine everytime with the orig.bin .however,i removed the resistor that causes the efuses to blow,so i cannot update the console to a newer dashboard,it always gives me an error.so that means i cant play any wave 4 or 5 games on it.

i really need to get xbr to work, and i dont know what to do anymore.can someone help please?

I have a zephyr that previously ran XBR fine then just randlomly died. I have a question thou.

When you turn it on do the fans make a strange noise? IE: they keep bursting in speeds on boot up, you have to listen carefully for it thou.

Dont know how to explain it but instead of the fan noise being a constant whrrrrrr its like whrrrrbrrrrrrrrbrrrrrbrrr like a pulse in speed.

Dont know if it has anything to do with it but i just wondered if anyone elses did it. I have not tried flashing falcon or flashing it back to stock as its just a spare board really.

i finally gave up.restored the original nand, gonna go and buy tomorrow a 10ohm resistor and solder it back,to blow the efuses and install the latest official dashboard.

zephyrs are just too much of a headache.i went today and bought a jasper pro,60gb hdd.came bundled with burnout paradise and trivial pursuit.

works like a charm.xell boots everytime,no more RROD or e71/e79

here are some photos of the jasper in action :

edit: just flashed XBR.works FLAWLESSLY !!!

thanks to everyone that tried to help with the zephyr.i guess it just wasn't meant to be,lol.
