Straight Flash Vs Cygnos V2.
« on: January 28, 2010, 02:01:00 AM »

I was reading/researching a bit and came across Cygnos V2.
Why would i want to buy one at such a stupid price for a modchip ???
Any points of justification ?

Planning to JTAG and XBR my box for emu's, ISO playing and big HDD.

Do i want Cygnos ?

Also, if not too much bother, how is infectus2 different ?

Depends what you want out of Homebrew really. My own opinion is XBR's the way forward - cheap, similar amount of soldering to installing a mod-chip (onto dependant of your mobo revision - bigger pads). If you want the versatility of swapping between NANDs (although why you would alludes me) then go the mod-chip route.

As for - 'once the mod-chips in, you've got direct access to the NAND', you can achieve this by adding an LPT/LPTUSB port under where the HD clips into the 360.

Not flaming mod-chips, as I like the fact that they're out there, but the additional outlay for one just isn't justified at the mo'

i just bought one. i bought i for a few reasons.

1. read and flash nand with USB, far more reliable and alot faster, handy if you have a larger nand.
2. keep your original dash on the 360 and have xbr on the other
3. and lastly LPT is slow and crude, not everyone has a port on their pc and i have seen alot of people damaging their 360s due to lpt.

everyone has their own views tho, and not everyone can affor to buy a cyngos360 even i really shouldnt have paid it but theres no way im waiting to flash a 512mb nand or try making a usb device.
