Couple Questions About Falcon Jtag
« on: January 22, 2010, 11:07:00 PM »

Is there a certain kind of solder to use or does it not matter? I have some but I don't know what it is because there's no labels on it. I managed to get the DB25 connector all wired up with the resistors and all the pins, but I can't solder it to the board because for some reason it's not sticking to the board. blink.gif

I don't have flux, so I'm just trying to put tiny blobs on the solder points. If flux is absolutely necessary, I'll try to buy some tomorrow. But is there a certain solder that's better than others? I read leaded solder was good.

Also, I'm kind of confused about the ground points.

This is the image I'm using:

Do I just join both ground points to pin 18 on the connector?  uhh.gif

Thanks in advance,
Matt

take a knife or small screwdriver and scrape the solder points carefully.  They have a thin protective clear layer over them.

Thanks for the quick reply! Never would have thought of that. I was basically ready to give up for the night, but I'll see if I can get this done.

Thanks!  biggrin.gif

EDIT: Dang, it's still not sticking. It looks like it is, but if I barely touch it with my finger, it sticks to my finger. What really confuses me is I got the diode wired from J2D2 to DB1F1, along with making the DB25 connector with all the resistors, but I can't get them to stick to the board. blink.gif

EDIT 2: Did a google search and supposedly silver solder is better than rosin core. I'm pretty sure I have rosin core since I got it at Harbor Freight. I don't think they even had silver solder lol. I'll see if I can find some silver solder tomorrow and hope for the best.

Well, I managed to get everything hooked up. Looks like the rosin core solder was my problem. The silver core worked wonders. biggrin.gif

I'm still missing a couple wires, though. Like I said in my first post, do I just combine both ground wires to pin 18 on the connector? I'm assuming I do but I want to be sure.

Thanks

Yeah I saw that after I posted, lol.

I'm dumping my 2nd nand as I type this.  happy.gif

Thanks for the help guys, hopefully everything goes smoothly. If not, I'll be back with more questions, heh.

I keep getting an E79 Error after soldering the Jtag wires and flashing the nand several times with XBReboot or Xell (both give me E79).

If I restore my original nand, I can boot right back to dashboard.  The falcon I have still has the old "Blades" dashboard.

Ok, so I dumped the nand 3 times and they were all identical, so now I'm trying to flash Xell to the 360 and I keep getting the error "couldn't open Xell.bin for read"  blink.gif

I've tried both of these commands:

Nandpro20b\nandpro.exe lpt: -w16 Xell.bin

&

Nandpro20b\nandpro.exe lpt: -w16 Xell.bin 0

I've searched for it but it's pretty rare evidently. I found a couple people that had the error but either never resolved it or didn't say what fixed it.  dry.gif

Any ideas?

EDIT: After a whole lot of googling, I found a thread that helped. Basically I moved all the files from a folder in the root directory to C:\Documents and Settings\Matt and just typed the command "nandpro lpt: -w16 Xell.bin". So for anyone having similar problems, try moving all the Nandpro files and bin files from the Nandpro20b folder in the root of the hard drive to your "Documents and Settings" folder. smile.gif

Is the file "Xell.bin" in the same directory as nandpro?

Also make sure you are using the correct xell version for your motherboard version.

Ok another question.  tongue.gif

I flashed Xell and got my cpu key. I'm following a tutorial to get the dvd key (it's for xenon 360's though) and it says to open 360 Flash Tool and it will ask for the cpu key. When I open it, nothing pops up asking for the key, so I click the "keys" button and enter my cpu key but it doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong? I need the dvd key because this 360 doesn't have a drive.

HA! I have no idea what I did, but I just re-opened the nand and it has the cpu key and dvd key already in it. *shrug*

Onto XBReboot! Thanks for all the help, guys! biggrin.gif

Thanks,
Matt

Dang, I followed this tutorial for installing XBReboot and when I went to boot it up, it rrod'd. So I turned it off and turned it back on, and all 4 lights lit up. Turned it off and on again and the top left, top right, and bottom right were lit up.

wtf is going on?  blink.gif

You did use the right XBReboot version based on your motherboard revision, right?

Now if I can just figure out why I am getting an E79 error on my JTAGged Flacon.

Did you flash your KV and Config back onto the NAND? Also check the soldering for the jtag wires.

I used "XBR_Falcon_8955_3a" and according to a picture I used that showed the different power supply connections, I have a Falcon/Opus board.

I just flashed XBR, then flashed my KV and that's it. The tutorial I was using didn't say anything about flashing the config. sad.gif

I'm pretty sure my soldering is good because I had errors trying to flash Xell last night and it ended up being because the ground cable came off the board. After that I went over all my soldering and it should be good to go.

I'm gonna try reading the nand again and re-writing xbr. Am I supposed to inject the kv before or after flashing xbr? And how do I get this config file?  uhh.gif

EDIT: Yup, I'm reading it right now and it's got a lot of errors.
