Launch Xexmenu From Memory Unit Or Usb Device?
« on: January 21, 2010, 09:56:00 PM »

you can make a quick boot file, but you will still need either a official memory unit OR stock hard drive attatched.

get the xex version of xexmenu instead of the live version (which you have)
then place it in a folder on you usb drive called apps
launch quick boot (get it from the usual places)
and for the directory in quickboot type

USB:\apps\xxxx\default.xex   (change xxxx to the name of the folder that xexmenu is called)

then you need to copy that quick boot file to the hard drive or memory unit and place it in either content/0000000..../c0de9/0008000  or 00007000   (depending which one quick boot told you to place it in)

atm thats the only way i know of doing it other then cd as you are doing now.

Copying it from CD to MU usually results in just getting the 00080000 folder with no Xex in it.

You could possibly try loading XEXmenu from CD then FTP'ing xexmenu onto your MU

thanks fellas.

I'll give those ideas a shot later this afternoon after work.  I dont mind using a memory unit, just didnt want to move my main 120gb hdd over yet from other xbox as its loaded with stuff, and save loading from disc each time.

I take it you can't put save games onto a USB stick anyway?  If not then I'll have to put an hdd in on the side.

Reason being, I have a 3.5/2.5" external docking station, that feeds a popcorn player, wii, and soon to be 360 on a USB selector switch (a bit like the old scart switches)....so ideally just want to be able to chuch a 2tb drive in and have that do most.......but I suppose I'll need to keep in at least a 20gb drive to the main port on the 360 for holding the save games?

Also, can xbla titles be launched from USB?

There is a way of doing this, and you can launch GOD games and xbla from the stick too. no stock hard drive or cd needed

1. format your usb stick using the xbox
2. plug it into the pc and get party buffalo drive explorer
3. go to file > open > open device selector and open your drive
4. get your live xexmenu files/folders ready. should look like this:

Content\0000000000000000\C0DE9999\00080000\C0DE99990F586558

5. right click on the 'Data' folder in party buffalo and choose 'inject folder'
6. choose your 'Content' folder
7. wait while buffalo copies the content to the stick. it takes a while
8. put in xbox. xexmenu and games will appear in the games library

if you copy your profile file onto the usb stick you can save games on it too. you can then choose which storage device to save onto from within games
