Easier Way To Wire Jtag?
« on: January 12, 2010, 01:35:00 PM »

I just jtag'd my second falcon , and decided to go a diferrent route ..not sure if its been posted before but this was a lot easier and neater/cleaner

since on the falcon soldering to db1f1 is damn hard with no pad on that spot on a falcon i had to use the alt spot ft1ut on bottom and j2d2.2 has to go to bottom of board anyway also ..i thought lets just keep it all on the bottom , that what i did here

nothing on top to of board to be concerned with and just put some extra thermal pads on the dioded to protect them ( btw the 330 ohm resistor @ j2d2.4 to j2d2.7  was neccasary or this falcon wouldnt boot  ) ..whatcha think ?

Nice! I like that, if you posted more zoomed in pictures I'd definetly do that, it looks way more out of the way and professional.

Since it is a good idea to be under the board anyway to remove the efuse resister may as well go ahead and do the jtag under there as well.

if you remove R6T3 on the bottom of the board it disables the efuses from updating.

Its funny to see this being posted. I accidentally messed up a pad or 2 on the top side of my Xenon board, but seeing as how the 3 required traces were on the bottom anyways I decided to do all the connections under the board.

Doing this helps the top be less messy and make more room. The only thing you have to be careful about is if any parts of the wires are somewhat exposed you should put electrical tape around it so when you put it back into the case it doesn't short or come into contact with other points on the board.

How easy is it soldering the diodes to the board?

Would it be safer to solder a small wire first and connect the diode to that?

I had no problem soldering directly to the board, but as long as you can solder well, there should be no problems with using a smaller gauge wire instead of directly to the board.  Just keep it short and clip the leads of the diode to keep everything neat smile.gif

I had a hard time soldering the diode directly to the mobo so I did a wire from the point and soldered that to the diode.

nice one dude I also decided to solder my jtag point there too instead of the IR pcb as my wire would always snap when I closed my case and just give me and E79. I was thinking of posting it here when I found out it worked but was too lazy tongue.gif

oh well good job just one suggestion, you may want to insulate your bare wires so you don't short it out on any of the boards other solder points or on the case of the board itself. Super glue maybe?

yeah if u seen in my first post i mentioned that i used thermal pads to protect the exposed wire , and keep the diodes from getinng crushed if possible
