Problems Dumping Jasper Nand - Fried Xsb?
« on: January 11, 2010, 04:14:00 PM »

I'm having a problem dumping a Jasper 512 console's NAND with either LPT or USB - I am just getting the flash controller not recognised messaged using either.  However before I go into detail about this issue, there are some other things worth noting..

Firstly before this console came my way, the DVD drive had been killed somehow.  I'm not entirely sure what happened to it, but the drive itself started smoking which is why I have this console in the hope that the CB is exploitable and the key can be retrieved from the KV.

Also, the 360's power LED constantly flashes.  I know this is normal for a 360 with no DVD drive attached, but this one is doing it even with another (known working) drive hooked up - that's not normal behaviour even for a drive with a mismatched key.  The other odd thing is that the dash reports the status as "Closing".  If I open the drive, it says 'Opening' and opens but then closes itself a few seconds later.  Two drives have been hooked up and the same thing happens, so it's not a problem with the DVD drives I'm using.  If I power the console on with the eject button, it powers up and the tray ejects but it closes itself a few seconds after.  Strange behaviour indeed.

Anyway on to the problems with dumping the NAND.  As mentioned before I have tried with both LPT (with diode on the motherboard side) and my Olimex USB board.  I know my diodes/cable/LPT/USB stuff is good because I've dumped and flashed at least 10 other consoles with no problems at all.  I have tried 3 different sets of cables and also checked my connectivity with a multimeter - I know for sure that the soldering is good.  Just to be sure I haven't screwed up my Olimex board I tried dumping the NAND of another 360 I have here and that worked perfectly straight away.

So basically, NandPro is telling me it can't find this particular 360's flash controller and it just so happens that this 360 seems to have problems with DVD drives too.  Is it possible that whatever happened to the DVD drive before could've trashed the XSB, therefore also killing the flash controller and the ability to read/write the NAND?
