Xbox Image Browser / Xbox Backup Creator On A 64 Bit?
« on: January 09, 2010, 10:55:00 PM »

So I tried downloading Xbox Image Browser and Xbox Backup Creator, but they both seem to not work on a 64 bit system due to not being able to register a file in the system32 file.

My questions is what can I do with a 64 bit system, specifically Windows 7 Ultimate?  I am using an application called "ws360-1.6" and that seems to extract the files but I am not able to find something that's worded similar too "xboxgamehack".  How do I do this "xboxgamehack" if I can't boot up Xbox Image Browser and when exactly do I do I execute it?   One last question, once the files are extracted (which I can do with ws360-1.6), do I just delete the sysupdate folder or do I have to delete it in a special way?

thanks

xbc works on 64bit if your having problem with a file search the net for the file and put it in either system 32 or the xbc folder

I've tried both xbox image browser and xbox backup creator and both are looking for mscomctl.ocx
I downloaded the file off the net and put it in system32. I then TRIED regsvr32 windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx but it says it doesnt have a dll.

Anyone know how to get this going??

It's not saying which dll file it needs. It says.
QUOTE
The module "windows/system32/MSCOMCTL.OSX" failed to load.
Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.
The specified module could not be found.

I've personally copied the ocx file into system32 so I KNOW it's there.
I've searched google and when I look for a mscomctl.dll it shows links that supposedly have them, but after I open the winrar it's the osx file.
I've tried installing .net framework and c++ run time libraries but nothing's working.

Works fine for me with 7 x64.

Just gotta place the file into the right path.

Can't remember if it is the program folder, system32 or wow64 though.

OK I got it working with the help of a friend.
Put MSCOMCTL.OCX in windows\sysWow64
Run CMD as administrator and type
regsvr32 windows\syswow64\MSCOMCTL.OCX
a pop up box should say it worked and you should be able to open both xbox image browser and xbox backup creator.

I'v tried the steps listed above and still no luck. Am I to understand the ocx file is all I need or is there a dll file as well. Running Windows 7 64bit, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

nevermind i got it to work... heres the steps i went through

i was running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit OS

1) First figure out if you have the MSCOMCTL.OCX in your c:windows/syswow64 folder, if not keep reading, if it is there skip down to #4

2) if you dont like i didnt go to This site and click the "HERE" to download the MSCOMCTL.OCX file

3) once it is downloaded copy and paste it to your SysWOW64 folder

4) next click start => run => type in "cmd" & press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER. this starts the command prompt as the Administrator. (its important to run CMD as administrator, even if your a computer admin, you still must either use the ctrl+shift+enter combo to start as admin, or right-click CMD and click run as admin)

5)When the black window open with your command prompt type this in:

cd<push spacebar>C:\Windows\SysWOW64 <push Enter key>

should look like "cd C:/Windows/SysWOW64" make sure to get the space between "cd<space>C:..." then press enter

6) The prompt should change to:  C:\Windows\SysWOW64

They type:

regsvr32<push spacebar>mscomctl.ocx <push Enter key>

(again note the spaces)

7)If you get a Window that pops up and says, "DllRegisterServer in mscomctl.ocx succeeded" then click OK and try to run Xbox Image Browser again

thats exactly what i did after i had tried about every other combo to get the MSCOMCTL registered to the OS and this worked for me...

hope it works for others

The above didn't work for me but this one did. Original source here,at bottom of page

"This worked for me beautifully.  Get the afrementioned zip(mscomctl.ocx), extract to said directory ( C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. ) And instead of doing the "Start > Run" go to Start > Programs > Accessories > LEFT CLICK ON "Command Prompt" and choose "RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR"

I repeat, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR

then use "CD C:\Windows\system"

NOT \system32

Then "regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx"

Done.

*Edit:* FYI This was done on a Windows7 x64 Ult machine"
