Flashing Green/red And Clicking

My xbox had been working fine for a few months. One day I went to turn it on and it began  to make a clicking noise which was coming from the DVD drive side of the xbox. Now the xbox will not boot up with the modchip enabled and when disabled boots to the error code 5 screen. I have a Maxtor 120 GB drive and an Executer modchip. I dont understand why the locking code error is suddenly coming on when my xbox has been working fine without it for so long.
