Falcon Xell Jtag Hardware Solution
« Reply #15 on: January 19, 2010, 12:58:00 PM »

I have the exact same problem!

I have a Falcon board (CB5770) and I´ve tried everything!
My soldering is ok (checked and measured), my diods(4148) are ok (measured) and the flash (tried a bunch of different versions för the falcon) is ok, but all I get is the 3 red lights immediately after starting the box.
I tried reflashing the original nand and removing the jtag wires and it boots ok!
I have even tried the 330Ohm resistor between pin 4&7, but no change (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I´ve run out of ideas, so if anybody has any suggestions, please let me know!

Just got mine working... well almost, got E71, but atleast I´ve got something on my tv!
The solution to my first problem was a 470 ohm resistor instead of the 320 I used at first.
Gonna reflash and see what happens!!!

you using a resistor on the jumper wire? have you tried just the wire? i've done several falcons with no weird issues like that, just the 2 diodes and the jumper.

It´s working!!!!!
reflashed the latest xbr.bin with just the kv and it works!!

I started with just the wire between j2d2.4&7, but just 3x red lights, then added 320ohm, same shit, then finally I soldered a 470ohm resistor on and it´s alive!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Changed diodes from 1N4148 to BAT46 today. Noticed that now I needed to add the 330ohm resistor.
So the need of resistor may be dependant on which diode you use.

I am getting an E79 system error when I boot my XBReboot JTAGged Falcon xbox and 1 RRoD light.

Would the 330ohm resistor really help?  Is the any danger in using a resistor?

I can't edit my previous post.

I have tried both the 330Ohm resistor and the 470ohm resistor without success.  I keep getting an E79 error for both Xell and XBReboot.

I've Jtag'd my falcon, and I can never get it to boot xell or XBR. It always gives me E79. The wiring is perfect (Checked with Multimeter); however, I soldered the Diode to point 6 instead of point 2 on the RF panel (Checked with a multimeter, and both are the same). The flash is perfect as I've read back what I wrote and both are identical. I've tried with the 330 ohm resistor and with a bridge. I've tried to inject the KV to Xell. Tried everything! And yes I've removed the power cable for 2 minutes after flashing Xell. I just want to flash Xell, and will flash XBR through Linux.

Note 1: Capacitors C1F1 and C1F2 are damaged.

Note 2: DB1F1 and UTF2 are both fried, so I soldered to the track; however, I cut the track by mistake. The track is no longer connected to DB1F1. I've managed to solder the diode to the track later on, and checked with a multimeter against the tiny point to the left that is in the image where it shows that it's an alternative to DB1F1.

Note 3: My Cb is 5766.

anyone have any ideas what my problem could be with a Falcon, when I flash the XBR onto it, the console does not even power up , no green lights, no red lights.. just no power at all

when I reflash the original NAND back it works, - I have tried various combinations is this definately a problem with the XBR I am trying to flash or could it be something else

Thanks in advance

I jtagged several falcons and zelphr motherboards and what I noticed when I get errors is that the DB1F1 diode loses connection pretty easily. Its such a small point and I can barely get the solder to stick. I get werid errors like red lights circling when it boots up and E79. When I resolder DB1F1 diode, everything boots like normal. I hope this helps you out if you are having problems (I didnt use 330 resistors)

I've done many Xenons, a Jasper and 3 falcons and I have only got this very issue with Falcon's. It happens mostly when I boot the device after having it unplugged for a while. The Jasper also has the same small pad to solder too and works fine. I am definitely going to give the 330 resistor a go and will get back to the forum.

@Bukmop - Ur a star  wink.gif

Been strugling for four days with my Falcon. At one stage I thought it was destined for the scrap heap. Initally I got 3 RROD about 1 in 5 power ups, then continual RROD (secondary code 0020). Lost count on how may times I've re-wired and re-flashed. Swithed jtag points from RF to under board.
Had a glimmer of hope yesterday when I flashed back with the original Nand, removed the jtag and it started working. Then I discovered this thread.
330ohm resistor used for jtag with original NAND and it boots fine. Reflashed with xbr and still okay.
Not a single RROD so far.
Thanks for the info.  cool.gif

I'm also getting the intermittant rrod. I've been using it this way for a week now. So i'll try a 330ohm resister and see if it helps.
