Okay, it's great that these kind of advancements are coming out in all their glory but dude, this hasn't been happening because of the bans or because M$ pissed of some hackers.  The ability to make the 360 do this has been worked on for so long, way before the bans and are motived only by the want and desire to open this sytem up (which by now, it obviously seems it has).  All these little hacks and goodies seem to be a nice side effect and should be taken as such.  Remember, those with a box from the latest ban can't begin to do step one of this hack... yet.  Great job guys!

PS- No offense, just don't wanna see this thread littered with "Ooooh yeah Microsux, you pissed the hackers off, this is what you get!  Dig it?!?!?!?"

hahaha it's an all out war now. Microsoft overstepped and now they will suffer the wrath. Guaranteed if games were priced right, bannings didn't happen for modding etc. these things wouldn't be taken so far. Now that Microsoft has completely taken a dump on everyone respect has fallen and it's pretty much a free for all. There would really be zero motivation to hack the system if everything was priced right and the features offered were what the community wanted.

STFU you idiot.

Yes, I only worked this out while trying to be able to play my own purchased content on any tag I use on my offline system.
Yes, it does work for DLC as well.  Not videos though, so my locked videos are still stuck to the Live box.

So would this work for a non homebrew console, The part about burning the file to a cd, having it show as a mixed media disc and playing the game from the games library tab got me thinking. About a year ago the Japanese Resident Evil 5 Demo leaked online and was played in much the same way, what would stop you from using these games on any console, hacked or not.

Hopefully with this peep into xbox architecture and security new progress towards new consoles that are actually relevant will come into play.

No, because that demo was still signed. The only reason this method works is because XBR and Freeboot don't require files to be signed. As soon as you edit it, the signature breaks.

I would never encourage someone to do this on games and DLC unless they already purchased the content. I did it merely to be removed of the restriction of having to connect to Live with a 360 I did not want on Live. Its funny, a competing system can let you give them the info for an offline system and the games are still linked to and won't play on any systems but those few that they have allowed. Microsoft on the other hand requires that you be tied to their servers. However, they also want you to not use your hardware in legal manners that they don't approve of if you connect to those servers. That is not exactly reasonable treatment.

Also, this will not work on consoles unless they have had their signature checking disabled (such as by freeboot or xbrebooter). That is where the security itself was bypassed.

Just wanted to make that all abundantly clear.
