Installing Sxb Question
« Reply #30 on: May 05, 2006, 01:08:00 PM »

Well you do try very hard to be helpful - which is always good.

I'm sure if I get a few spare moments I will look at it again.

One small hint though is that instead of typing miles and miles of text (which I'm sure must be very time consuming for you) it would be much more efficient just to type out the actual commands to use when installing SBX - as this would be much more efficient.

Then all users need do is copy your commands exactly and nothing can go wrong.

Although it is regrettable, people just do not have time to read in depth and occasionally conflicting guides like this and would probably much prefer to get the raw info/data they need in order to accomplish the as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

I'm sure your guide could probably be reduced to possibly no more than 10 straightforward CLI commands - without any need for additional commentary at all. But again, as I said until I can work out how to get Debian set up the way I want it, I don't know if I will have time.

I have download Sxb-Stacker-Lsf-Small-120mb-iso

My results:

Boot with livecd -- BLACK SCREEN

Boot with hd -- BLACK SCREEN

Some solution?

------------
XBOX V1.6

XBOX V1.6 you have i think you will have same problems with all xbox linux,
You will have to get older version xbox.

Hum,I believe there is a way to run linux on XBOX V1.6 i think i explained
in here forums,it's a long process it involves copying parts of xcodes,
from other xbox to yours, you have to build a tiny bootable busybox
linux so it can program it.etc.,what a waste of time and effort,as you
can only run linux installed native on it,an old laptop is better than that.
hence i only use softmod to test my sxb's.and  no sxb are ever the same,
otherwise it gets boring and dull.Shame sxb does not work on 1.6 sorry.

I will find out that web site where i read it on google if needed

Hum,this time i am not promising,but if i get a chance i think i will
go and buy a cheap xbox.16 and have a go.Hum,is it really important
for people to run linux on xbox 1.6?.

Hum,do you get any graphics at all? a line or something, etc.

Ok,i be honest few weeks back i got in to usb2ide converters because
i wanted to run sxb on external large usb eide hd and pc burners,
without opening xbox up only using softmod.which i did. This
be handy for newer xboxes aswell one day.

Anyway getting back to your video problem for 1.6 ya.

Well 4 weeks back i was trying to get full bootsplash working
in sxb, which i did the kernel is at sxb site if people need it.

Anyway as i was adding extra patches to sxb new kernel 2.6.16.1
i noticed an usb device module  which is an external usb2 vga
adpator,Hum, then i got the idea wonder there are other usb2vga
adaptors around in a better mode so we could use as an external
usb vga to run not only on xbox but other new console,I searched
and yes i found patches and yes they do sell usb2vga adaptor
only 2 compy sell these on google, and there is project for pc
to do with usb2vga adpators as an second vga card.

This was few weeks back if i get time i will test this ok.
so pci2usb2vga i will look and have a go,You see xbox 2.6
kernel is so close to pc as we hardly need many patches
and it would not suprissed me if something come out of
this,i can only try its only learning.

ok see ya for now if i get bored i will try again, but can not promise,
ok,as i do not even have xbox 1.6,but i can try usb2vga connector
if i get one surely, nice challange.

GJ,Thanks,Yes few words that's exactly why i came up the idea in xromwell menu
so all people have to do is read first few lines as help file  so they know password
dhcp or static  and how to copy 2 dir  thats it go down the line and choose run,
nothing could be easier than that ya.As long as people read it before launch,
Usally i do install script, infact it was in menu,i took it out to make even
easier for people and all they had to do is ftp  2 dir's  sxb to E and sxbsbig.
to ethier E/sxbsbig F/sxbsbig G/sxbsbig and click easy.

I think my idea of help file in xromwell menu is good,as it makes people
read few lines  as help file you just can not go wrong this way, apart from
clicking wrong line hence they do not post asking how to install etc as
its all there in blue and white, even in poor english, that was the whole idea,
you see what i mean.

Ok your linux did you get your .config and compiled your kernel yet.
by the way why you adding 512 mb swap 128 is added auto you
do not need it that big it will slow things down.
You building debeian with full debian base or using busybox as base,
busybox base is slower than real packages bear that in mind.

thanks mate seeya.

"error loading kernel"

I downloaded the 640mb iso. I copied the 2 sxb and sxbsbig dir to E/. Im running avalaunch dashboard, so I go to file manager and then to E/sxb and run default.xbe and it boots fine to "xbox linux xromwell 2.41-dev Sxb-Stacker-LSF+U" screen. I even get the open to pick boot from cd-rom/FatX (E:)/Etherboot/Advanced. and when I go to FatX (E:) boot I get the boot menu

"
A NEW TREND SXB HELP MENU
QUICK HELP AND FEW DETAILS
DO NOT CLICK FIRST FEW LINES
===================
SXB-STACKER-LSF=run methods
SXB-LIVECD=full domino autosave
SXB-HD-MODULAR= domino autosave
===================
"

how ever when I go to choose SXB-STACKER-LSF and/or SXB-HD-MODULAR I get "error loading kernel". and im not able to do boot from cd seeing how I have a 1.0 xbox and it doesnt' read burnt cds.  now I read this tread and saw that it doesn't use linuxboot.cfg anymore? which would make since because in my e/sxb/ dir I see a linuxboot but it has no exntension. am I missing something? help please.

yOUR xbox should be ok to boot from cd try burn on a diffrerent make of blank cdrw and try
not all cdr's seem to work i use memorex they are ok sxb iso is udf format it  should and burns
well  in linux apps or windows,so try a different cdrw ok burn slow speed 2 or 4 for good result.
This iso also boots and runs on pc so stick it in pc to see it boots ok to test if needed.

Yes about kernel not found,i think you are clicking the lines you are supposed to only read, hence
kernel error. As you said   SXB-HD-MODULAR  this is just to read.

SO keep going to the line  till the line  that says TO-RUN-CHOOSE-BELOW-
now all the lines below that are sxb runs with different installs.
now you can click these next lines

1 SXB-E-HD-STATIC-IP KDE : you click on this line as you installed on E ok.

I think all are numbered  1 to 7 so you can not go wrong do not click ==========

do similar for livecd it only has 2 runs dhcp or static

So what is happening is you are clicking read lines which do not run anything.
just click line as above, rest is help file TO-RUN-CHOOSE-BELOW text reminds you this
to get ready to run.

I think you should leave your setup as is thats the whole point of sxb modular,so it runs along side other
xbox apps, unless you like native install.

Yes be ok to setup server on this ,same as you do in slackware apache dhvpcd samba, etc

But best bet is to download sxb-stacker-small 122mb as it faster less resource hungry,
and add light ligthter servers etc.

download  sxb-stacker-small 122mb iso
In running sxb the one you have search in google
for  "index slackware lighttp. vsftpd squid proxy all tgz pkages.
then in running sxb convert them to modules

type  tgz2mo  lighttpd.tgz    lighttpd.lsf
type   tgz2mo vsftpd.tgz . vsftpd.lsf
type   tgz2mo squid.tgz  squid.lsf

now add these modules in modules dir.
download new iptables src tgz pkg.

Hum,i think you will need to compile new iptables src
to go with this 2.4 kernel also, hence i left full dev, make stuff
and full sxb kernel src in iso as default.,in case people need to do
own kernel modules,etc they can.
Most people really only use xbox linux to browse web and run few apps,
some use it to run as servers etc,so they can recompile sxb kernel and
iptables etc to suite.

Best way to compile kernel modules in sxb is to run the sxb-stacker-lsf iso
on pc as its much faster and if you have lots off mem in your pc all this
can be done in ram in sxb in few quick minutes.

In next sxb ker 2.6 releases i have all these in as default

Hum if i get free time i will see what kernel 2.4 is latest and
may be upgrade that as new sxb kernel 2.4 with iptables etc.
but i think 2.4.32 sxb kernel is the latest.
I have been doing 2.6 kernels only lately sxb for xbox
or you can wait  till i release sxb 2.6 kernel default iso for xbox.

But at the moment i am finishing of 3 versions of SXB.s for pc guys.
then i release 2 version for that for xbox,or make them dual pc and
xbox dedicated.I think i already done the dual matched kernels 2.6.16.1
for pc and xbox,i uploaded at sxb site 2 weeks back.I am wating for
newer version of slackware 11 which seems to never be realeased.

As i a bored doing slackware 10.2 latest i think i realeased 3 sxb version
iso with slack 10.2 so i wait for slack 11 version for now and mean while
i am buillding more packages for my bigger project poor-linux and doing
none pc or none xbox stuff.

ok have fun.

Hello Bollywood.
Im a noob with linux. And I am trying some of the xbox distroes. I have a sis162U USB wlan stick, that i cannot get to work with any distroes. Im just trying the loopback versions, no native install.

Im using your Sxb-Stacker-Lsf-Small.iso, (Sxb to E: sxbbig to G:) and I like the apps and speed but I have some questions about it.

It wont save my settings, I must change the keyboard settings, etc every time i boot. Noting i saves is there when i reboot.
Its probable something I havent read or I am doing wrong here. .?

(By the way i have edited the linuxboot file and just leaved one option static on G, and i have taken out the nohotplug command)

But the real question is... Could I get my wlan usb stick to work in sxb..?

I see it isnt ndiswrapper in your distro, but i have the linux driver and just have to compile it.
I cannot i find the kernel-source... you mention something about its been in the Iso in your last post.

If its in there how do i restore it so i can compile my driver. ?

Hi,mate sxb 2.4 ker  hum, been doing to many 2.6 kernels lately
most of iptables and servers stuff in sxb 2,6 default soon ok.
first i must finish  3 sxb' for pc not long ok.Try below might help ok.

Download sxb-stacker-lsf large iso
Boot iso on pc not xbox so we are running
our same sxb xbox kernel on pc for speedy compile.

Then in running sxb

Download iptables latest src all 5 files small download /tmp

http://ftp.cgu.edu.t...ackware-current
/source/n/iptables
and your usb driver you need compiling.

rebuild kernel with options you need as normal
compile your driver.

run iptables.slackbuild script which will make /tmp/iptables.tgz

mkdir -p /mymod

installpkg -root /mymod /tmp/iptables.tgz

in mc copy /lib/modules/2.4.32* your new modules to /mymod

now 2 dirs in /mymod/lib and /mymod/usr

type dir2mo /mymod /new-libs-ip.lsf and make a module.

ftp new-libs-ip.lsf to xbox g/sxbsbig/modules
and new kernel to e/sxb/vmlinuz

Now Your autosave module sittings not saving?

your sxb/linuxboot looks like below yes

\title 5 SXB-G-HD STATIC-IP
kernel vmlinuz
initrd initrd.gz
append max_loop=255 devfs=mount video=xbox:640x480 init=linuxrc
 sxbhd=disc0part56 sxbsubdir=sxbsbig sxbxb swapxb=/mnt/E/sxb
 load=zxb-hdsave.lsf probefatx usbscsicd kbd-reset
 load_ramdisk=1 prompt_ramdisk=0 ramdisk_size=9999 rw root=/dev/ram0

load=zxb-hdsave.lsf is this line still in?
 if yes check if G/sxbsbig/optional
has zxb-hdsave.lsf our save module in dir when
you restart sxb all settings are saved as zxb-hdsave.lsf
and are loaded with code load=zxb-hdsave.lsf

I see i missed keys=uk in linuxboot at title 5 SXB-G-HD STATIC-IP
i did not come across this as i do not have g drive to test.
for us add keys=us add this code in  or cut and paste
SXB-E-HD STATIC-IP from /sxb/linuxboot
and make a new SXB-G-HD STATIC-IP line in linuxboot
just change sxbhd=disc0part50 to sxbhd=disc0part56
and try.

Also in running sxb on your G hd go in mc and run /etc/./sxbhdsave script
which saves settings as module e/sxb/optional/zxb-hdsave.lsf
/etc/./sxbhdsave script is auto run from rc.6 file just before we reboot.
see if /etc/./sxbhdsave  line is in rc.6 it should be.

your sis162U i do not have one some info if needed

http://prdownloads.s...tar.gz?download
# ndiswrapper -i sis162u.inf

# ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
sis162u driver present, hardware present

# ndiswrapper -m
# modprobe ndiswrapper

ok good luck

Installing Sxb Question
« Reply #39 on: May 12, 2006, 05:19:00 PM »

Thanks for the reply Bollywood.

I have now figured it out, and "Sxb-Stacker-Lsf-Small" saves my setting. Well i had nothing in the G/sxbsbig/optional, it was emty. The cheatcodes was just fine, i adden keys=no (norway) , but still GB after reboot. So I ran the script /etc/./sxbhdsave script manually. Then i got the save module in ..Optional.
But still it woldnt save the recent saves.
After looking at your script in rc.6 I think. I changed the cheatcode "sxbxhd" or somthing to just "xb" , and now it saves.. smile.gif I dont now if this is right but its working. Maybe you forgot that in the bootmenu?
Anyway, i have the proftpd to autostart with SXB, but i didnt manage to create a user who had read/write access to E F G. Well i have a change in the config file, RootLogin on so i have access, but i want the user xbox to have RW access. I cannot change the fstab settings,,,, what file manages that?

As the newbe I am with linux, I have struggeled a lot with rebuilding the Kernel. By the way, I have just NTFS partitions on my hda disk on the PC.  So Im using your LiveCD, and it works wery well altouh I have no place to save. But i can ftp to my Xbox if I manage to rebuild the Kernel just right.(768Mb ram)
And have tryed recomile the kernel without running out of mem. So its ok.
But i cannont get it right, I always get      *****Unresoldes dependencies****' and the list of the modules. This is afte make module_install. I have tryed several settings but whatever I do, I cannot get rid of all. I even downloaded new kernel source code, and recopiled with your .config, still i got a lot of unresolved ....
If I trye to compile ndiswrapper or sis160U with your orginal untouched(by me) sourcecode from the live cd i still cant compile without error.

« Reply #43 on: December 04, 2006, 05:11:00 AM »

I use the Sxb-Stacker-Lsf-Smal, and installed it with ftping  to E:/ and F:/ or G:/, the swap.img is automade the first time you boot.

Does someoneknow how to change/setup the Keyboard?

I use a Logitech wireless desktop pro keyboard and mouse, and I have a problem with my keyboard, not all keys are functioning.
The buttons Insert,Delete,Home etc and the arrows buttons below them dosnt work.
The AltGr button function as Enter, so I cannot get characters like @ (altgr +2).

I have tryed to change the xorg.conf file several times with different setups and configs, but it seems to me that wathever I try I cannot get the buttons mentioned above to function.

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier  "Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro"
        Driver      "keyboard"
        Option      "CoreKeyboard"
        Option      "XkbRules"  "xfree86"
        Option      "XkbModel"  "logicordless"
        Option      "XkbLayout" "no"
EndSection

I have tryed changing all of the above whit different values but nothing seems to do anything.
My keyboard is working just fine in XBMC and X-Dsl so its not broken.

Either my keyboard wont work with this version of sxb, or Im doing somthing wrong here. Maybe the xorg.conf isnt the right place to change keyboard driver..?

PS: Bollywood, are you still around? Are you working at something new for the xbox?

Is their a loopback install script like the one in xdsl? I figured I would see the option in the slackware package tool, but I don't. I could be missing something though, my screen is blurry and I don't read so well.
