i had the same problem, if u look through his other posts in some other topics u will find a part, (in multiple topics i might add) that you need to take the linuxboot.cfg.hd and rename it to linuxboot.cfg   this works if you are doing an ftp install, otherwise i dont really know, i havent explored much more than that

if u ope it u would see there is alot more text in it, meaning its probly updated or w/e

rename it and put it where the old one was i think, i put it in a few difgerent places, and i rebooted and it worked so i didnt need to know exaclty where, thinks its sxboxE, anyways try that and then try running it from fatx and picking the first option, worked for me

Can someone please revise this revision? I have no file called linuxboot.cfg.hd. Also using the ISO I downloaded just half an hour ago, which claimed to be the latest release, which I burned using TAO in Nero (while opting to finalise the disk) I can't boot the liveCD (or anything). I can get to the Cromwell bios screen and I can select the options from the disk (use as a live CD, install to HDD and so on) but selecting these does nothing.

I have a V1.2 Xbox - so it shouldn't have any of the issues that are commonly associated with V1.6+ Xboxes.

GJ

raid517 what iso you downloaded ? give iso name,  linuxboot.cfg.hd. seems from older sxb

all newer sxb;s use xbbootcd.cfg for livecd and linuxboot for hd.

You been reading old docs at sxb.keckstar.com ?. thoes are old now
i think that site does not get updated 6 months its not mine.I will get my
own web site when i first release my own distro poor-linux for pc i will
need it then.

So if you guys download iso read the notes on sxb sfnet i put info there ok.
Hum,i think i better get rid of some old sxb's iso at the site its confusing people.
Some are old now and not comptable wih new sxb-stacker and lsf system,
plus i have 3 new sxb iso for pc to add soon, then 2 sxb iso default 2.6 kernels
for xbox after that, sxbmininew or special sxb with 5 different linux distros
in sxb modular style running from 1 sxb iso.
All this is going to confuse people so i will hide older sxb iso,s from site.

anyway let us know what iso you downloaded so i can help.

Hi.no good you downloaded the right one large one .sxb-stacker-lsf-big 640mb
there is .sxb-stacker-lsf-small 122mb is the latest any of these will do.

You said>
can't boot the liveCD (or anything). I can get to the Cromwell bios screen and I can select the options from the disk (use as a live CD, install to HDD and so on) but selecting these does nothing.

If you see Cromwell bios screen and menu then its booted and you burned it ok with nero.

Now i think what you are doing wrong is  You are clicking on the menu wrong, you see first few lines
of menu is just like a help file you are only suppose to read first few lines not click and run,i say this
in menu.

Keep going down to where it says  something like so For livecd run
 START BELOW    >get ready

All first lines are only for quick help and not lines to run. lines similar below.
do not click just read.
title WELCOME TO SXB-STACKER MENU
title USE AS LIVECD,FULL AUTOSAVE
title DEF, OR INSTALL,MOD ON HD
title ROOTPW=sxbox SXBGUEST=guest
title S-IP=192.168.0.3 OR DHCP
title EasyInstall copy or ftp sxb
title dir to E/sxb and sxbsbig dir
title to E,F,or G xbox hard disk
title win and linux copy both dirs
title to hd /hda1/sxb /sxbsbig
title NOTE SWAP IMG BE MADE AUTO
title ONCE,ITS REALLY NEEDED
title READ SXBREADME,USB2IDE
============================

                             NOW THE RUN LINES
START BELOW    >get ready  for clicking do not click
======================== do not click
1) SXB-LIVECD STATIC-IP  "click here  to run "
2) SXB-LIVECD DHCP       "or click here.

So this for livecd you have 2 lines to run dhcp or static click 1 of these only
and no other line for livecd.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
For running sxb from hd same kind of menu ,but 6 7 run lines depends where you
installed sxb to what hd e f or g and choose. So for hd the same way.

Sxb install to install sxb to hd all you do is copy or ftp 2 dir's to xbox hd.

E-HD INSTALL     COPY sxb dir from cd to E/sxb and E/sxbsbig

F-HD INSTALL     COPY sxb dir from cd to E/sxb and F/sxbsbig : NOTE copy "sxb" to E only

G-HD INSTALL     COPY sxb dir from cd to E/sxb and G/sxbsbig : NOTE copy "sxb" to E only.

So once you copied or ftp this you run E/sxb/default.xbe then in cromwell menu
choose what hd you installed it to E,For G OK.

let us know if above is not the problem you are having.
you must have read old docs somewhere linuxboot.cfg.hd
we do not use no more only linuxboot for hd and  xbbootcd.cfg for livecd.

I will go and turn some old files off in sfnet.

By the way if anyone downloaded sxb 2.6.16.1 sxb kernels i uploaded 2
weeks back as lsf ,i forgot the 2.6 sxb lsf i use different patches etc.
you can use this kernel when i release sxb 2.6 as default ok so keep them.
as sxb 2.4 lsf and 2.6 lsf are different so you can only extract 2.6 lsf kernel
in newer sxb 2.6 only ok.

But sxb kernel 2.6.15.5 with bootsplash etc you can extract this in
sxb-stacker-lsf  small and big. so you can use  ker 2.6.15.5 now if you
want bootsplash on your xbox if installed as native.

Thanks that worked - I appear to be having some issues with sound though. (Possibly because I don't have any analogue sound devices - only digital) I don't suppose you can tell me, or point me to a tutorial on how to get digital out sound working on Xbox Linux? It works fine in XBMC. When I do alsaconf - it detects the chip normally. However when I do alsamixer in a terminal - I get an error message saying 'no mixers found'.

Does digital out sound work on this cip - and if so how do i enable it?

Thanks for all the great help so far BTW.

QUOTE(raid517 @ May 4 2006, 08:49 PM) View Post

Damn a little premature maybe.... I got the liveCD to boot - but I still can't get the HDD install to work. Here is what I did.

I don't have a file called LINUXBOOT.CFG.HD I just have a file called linuxboot - which was is a little confusing.

Anyway here is what I did. I copied the files from the cd directory 'sxb' as instructed to:

E /sxboxE
E/sxboxE/DEFAULT.XBE
E/sxboxE/vmlinuz
E/sxboxE/initrd.gz
E/sxbox/linuxboot.cfg ----- This called linuxboot on my CD.
E/sxboxE/swap.img (I made a 512MB swap image).

But since I didn't want to install on the E drive as this is not big enough for what I want I instead made a directory on my f drive called sxbox.

I then copied sxbsbig, default.xbe, iso linux.cfg make_iso.sh sb-stacker,txt and xbbootcd.cfg to this new directory on my f: drive (as oper your instruction that 'everything else should be copied to F/sxbox).

Did I do it right?

I'm afraid to use the installer as I worry that it might wipe everything on the F drive (or on my E: drive and cause some kind of damage that will take a long time to fix - so installing it manually will at least reassure me that things are unlikely to go wrong.

GJ

sxb dir to e/sxb  sxbsbig dir to e f or g go you do not need swap space,it be made when you click
default.xbe and run from menu  simple.

28-March 04 you remember this date? have you ever blown up your xbox in 2 years? and what installer?
good luck.

please add swap.img in e/sxoxE dir or use installer.

Which I assume means there is an installer and that I should add a swap file?

You see where my confusion is? You appear to be saying one thing - and then a little while later you appear to be saying entirely another.

I'm afraid I also must have missed whatever happend on 28-March 04 as it is possible I may have been busy doing other things - but I'm sure that it does have some significance to this topic.

Anyway if I do figure it out I may print a plain English guide on how to do it - as although helpful I have found this guide to be quite confusing in it's own way.

Having said which I am up to my neck in Debian right now and have just rebuilt xUbuntu and much of the kernel. So I don't know when I will have time to get around to it.

Thanks, I'm trying to follow what you said. I think there is a small communication breakdown or a language problem. I assume you are not a native English speaker? (Don't worry you still speak English much better than I speak any other language...)

As for the installer again I am trying to follow what you said - and what you said was:

Gj,good i could do with proper english docs for sxb,but to copy 2 dir from cd to xbox
does not take much understanding, 28-March 04 is when you joined here forums that
is what i meant,so you are not new to xbox linux ya?,

Yes its true my written english is poor, but my spoken english as good
any british living here in uk London, although i have a strong cockney accent.
all us Londeners have this ya.So do not be fooled the way i write.,you whould
not think of me a non-english person,if you spoke to me in person.
Hum,facts are even in England quite a few people can not write well,no
there spoken english is perfect, but bunked of school a lot,and i am one
of them, hence i am catching up my written english now.

Hum,facts are english is only the 7 most spoken lang,
Mendrine, hindi, spanis, etc, etc,so english is not as important
as you imagine so at least as you said i can write in few asian lang's
and my written english is getting better, writing post like this,
so i think that;s all is needed, facts are few thousand sxb's have
been downloaded,in last year and have sxb running well,so
i think most people understand me,you see what i mean.

Great you are making effort rebuilding linux,we could do with more,so good luck
did you say debeain,i think i have also have  debeain in newer sxb-multi-pack iso
done in sxb style modular, together with other 4 distro linux,on one cd,Hum,i am
wating to add a new linux called poor-linux done by me alone,i am wating from
a nice chap on pc side on how to promote new never seen linux before. So i release
it for pc first. So i am sure you will get more headache reading my newer docs.
hum,you will also see me writing docs in other lang's aswell.

see ya have fun.
