Mod Your 360 And Play On Live-like Networks, Best Of Both Worlds
« on: November 23, 2009, 12:01:00 PM »

I have been reading for about a week straight about modding the xbox 360. Reading inconsistant information as well as not enough information, I figured why not go to the source and I joined this forum.

I recognize many of these questions are nub questions but frankly I just wants some answers once and for all. I do repeat myself on purpose but only to stress points.

My goal in asking these questions is to determine the following:
Is there a way to mod my 360 without getting banned from xBox Live?
Is there a way to play online with a modded 360 through a different Live-Like Network?

***The Best of Both Worlds, on the SAME CONSOLE***
I'm hoping to experience a modded 360 with online capabilities, as well as an unmodded 360 experience via xBox Live, all on the SAME CONSOLE.

I'm going to list questions in numerical bullets it the attempts to have them ANSWERED ALONGSIDE their CORRESPONDING NUMBER-LETTER in subsequent posts.

IMPORTANT*** If your answers are from 1st hand experiences please say '1st Hand' in your post. If you are speculating please say 'Speculation' in your post.

I'm going to stress organization because I will post a Q & A summary in a later post.

Please use the following example as a desired format for future responses:
"Answer 2a: Yes they do run xBox Live on private servers (1st Hand)."

1. Are there mod chips avaiable with an on/off switch?

1a. If so where can one go to find the lastest chips and their features (if your site is accurate then great!)?
1b. With the switch turned off can you connect to xBox Live (to chat or w/e) and not get banned?
1c. With the switch turned off can you play origional games (purchased from your local store) on xBox Live and not get banned?

2. Is it possible to be able to have access to a 3rd party Live network and still switch over to xBox Live?

(3rd party Live-Like Network examples are teamxlink.co.uk and xbconnect.com)
2a. Do the Live-Like Nets run xBox Live on private servers for free or is the software different?
2b. Assuming the software is different, what features when compared to xBox Live do these Live-Like Nets have (Friends list, In-game/Out-game Voice Chat, Etc) if they run different software?
2c. Can you play on the Live-Like Nets with the mod chip turned on running burned games?

***The Best of Both Worlds, on the SAME CONSOLE***
I'm hoping to experience a modded 360 with online capabilities, as well as an unmodded 360 experience via xBox Live, all on the SAME CONSOLE.

With any luck the answers to these questions will help me determine if the above is possible.

Thanks
Chris

Nice post. As to answers:

1. Yes there are NME chips that were modchips designed for hitachi's, samsungs and benq drives. Although these chips were discontinued, they are still somewhat in circulation. As for banning, odds are that the xbox flags itself within the nand chip and relays these flags to live for a console ban when you would connect to live. So although there is an on/off switch and an ethernet disable switch on these chips, the nand still stores your offline "dirty" information and will update with live as soon as you do eventually connect to it.

2. There are a couple of system-link (live-like) networks to play on like xlink kai and xbconnect. after you get them setup you can play on them with a modded or stock console. I haven't played on either of those setups personally since xbox 1 days so im not too familar with the features of it.

That's a shame about the chips storing my dirty offline info. I really thought I had a solution there for having your cake and eating it too.

thank you for the info once and for all

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am 99% sure that Xlink Kai and Xbox Connect only work with the original Xbox, not the 360.

Xlink Kai works with both. Although with the 360 they put a ping limit in place so its not nearly as robust. The players have to be close to you
