LoL I feel you Xoxide. I have been following discussions like this since the first bannings started, and I wish I had backed up my nand stuff before I updated, but at the time there was no hack for the 512mb nand jaspers... oh well. I got an xbox under the bed that had an old hitachi i burned out that i lost the dvd drive key to (back in the days when our flashing "tools" was a paperclip as a jumper), and another RRoD box. Match made in heaven? we'll see. Actually, I saw some back and forth on it, but I really didn't see a definitive answer. Can you or can you not read the nand off a RRoD box?

In case you didn't notice most places also scan the serial number of the Xbox itself as you purchase it. This info is on the reciept. At least I know that is the case with Best Buy. (That's why there is a hole in the box showing the serial numbers!)

Although my friend recently purchased the Walmart $100 Arcade console. He got 'lucky' because someone had returned it later that week and they were still doing the $100 gift cards. I had him check the serials and they matched the box. However the warranty sticker was not placed correctly and the holes on the back appeared tampered with. Looks like someone swapped the insides.
(turns out when he hooked it up it had the RROD too)

You can, the xbox does not need to be turned on to read the NAND, just have the power cord plugged in.

... yes that is the whole point of a case swap my friend. Serial stays the same.

They brought it back and did not specify that it was defective. It is up to the scammer to tell them to send it back to M$.

I'll hold my hands up now and say that I don't follow all the nitty-gritty of what's being described here, but I do get the gist of it.

But isn't it immaterial ? Cos as soon as you take your now unbanned XBox back on line, won't M$ use the same method they used before to detect your updated firmware or mod-chip and immediately ban you again ?

Or do I have the wrong end of the stick (again) ?

I also have a Jasper with the nand dump and cpu key for it.
Can I take the KV and patch it to the jasper somehow ?

I have read conflicting information on this because of falcon and up having a key vault hash check or something.

i believe so. the hash check is for the keyvault itself. you cant edit the keyvault internally. but i would assume you can patch a whole new vault and be ok. since the vault itself is not edited.

patch a Xenon with a KV from a Falcon or Jasper?
As I understand it, this would be possible, but the question is:

Would the Xenon be detected (because of the cross motherboard type KV patch) and XBL banned pretty soon anyway?

Are you serious? Did you read something about xell, jtag or summerupdate? Nothing will work for you. You cannot get your cpu key and there is no way to downgrade.
