Hitachi 78, Flashed But Won't Play Back-ups?
« on: October 05, 2009, 09:46:00 AM »

I have just flashed a hitachi 78 to firmware 1.51, after flashing I re-read the firmware to check if it had worked and FWToolbox showed me I it was iXtreme1.51.

So I placed the drive back in the console, booted it up to test it, placed a back-up in and the game wouldn't load, the drive starts to spin it up but then just spins down.

It still plays originals fine. I can't understand what the problem is.
Could it be my media?

Any help would be great.

lol ToBbErT. It's not a bad idea to look into pot tweaking if you have a good multimeter/voltmeter.
Media does help though. Some 360s are picky.

It's real easy to go too far. If you think you've not moved it enough, you've most certainly have. It's real easy to get the precision you want if you can get a screwdriver that has a rotating end. However, a good multimeter makes all the difference. Don't spring for one of the cheapo $10 Wal Mart meters though. I had one giving me all sorts of nonsense resistances when I tried to tweak a pot once. I'm glad I called BS and got me a better quality one, otherwise I would have burned out the laser the first time I tried powering it up.

I had the same problem with my Hitachi 59. Tried pot tweak. Didn't work. I use Verbatims from Singapore and I burned them at 2.4x with ImgBurn btw. Still no go. Played originals as well. I think Hitachis just blow. It has nothing to do with the laser cause I put it in a Sammy and it worked fine. For whatever reason, it just won't run backups. Could have something to do with one of the MS system updates. But nobody's really looked into it cause nobody likes Hitachis. Do yourself a favor and swap in a BenQ. Or a Lite-on if you have a spare (more expensive on eBay, but it's the best possible drive).

I've flashed three Hitachi drives so far. All of them have read and played backups just fine. All they needed (As most drives do) were a pot tweak.
