Nandpro: Tried Everything I Can Think Of, Need Assistance
« on: September 18, 2009, 10:49:00 PM »

Well, long story short, I can't figure out what is keeping NandPro from detecting my flash controller. I know this issue is brought up a lot, but after looking and looking, I don't think anyone has tried the setup that I have, so I figure I would see if someone else can shed some light on this issue.

I've tried everything I can think of to get this to work and here's what I have so far:

- (3) 1/4 watt 330-Ohm Resistors soldered to proper locations (wires are slightly longer than need be)
- 25 Pin Male D-Sub Connector
- Wires soldered to connector going to their respective points on the motherboard (Pin 11 has 1N914 diode, rest have no resistors)
- Parallel port measures 3.3V
- Tried setting parallel port to ECP, Bi-directional, and EPP
- Using IDE cable for wires
- Using laptop with integrated DB25 connector, Windows 2000 Professional, Dell Inspiron 3500
- XBOX 360 boots up fine when not connected to computer
- When connected, XBOX 360 boots, but shuts off after a minute
- XBOX 360 Kernal is 7363
- Parallel port cable is 30.5 cm long
- Solder connections are good and not shorted out
- Installed Text Printer driver
- Nothing installed that uses LPT port

Thats basically the entire story. Have a few questions, though. Has anyone confirmed that they dumped the Nand using Windows 2000? Would it be feasible to use resistors even though on-board connection is only 3.3V? Is IDE cable too small? The kernal should be okay right?

Sorry about all of the questions, and I know people are probably exhausted trying to answer every single one and fix every single problem, but maybe this can help others out if they are running similar setups.

Thanks guys!

How old are the computers your trying to use, Iv tryed heaps of computer with onboard lpt and the only ones that have worked are ones made before 1999. All the others have eather not been detected, bad flash config or just spits out heaps of errors.

Also only SPP mode has worked for me all the other modes dont work so if you have spp try that, And the only OS that have worked for me are 95/98/ME. XP and vista didnt work but they were on a computer newer then 1999.

The laptop came pre-installed with Windows 98, however, I'm running Windows 2000 Professional. Not really sure about the manufacturing date, but I would assume somewhere around 1998-2001.

My BIOS has a setting for 'Normal' (Non-directional). I tried that and still have the same result. I just can't think of what else to do. I guess I can try and solder in some resistors for the LPT pins. Other than that, I'm at a loss. Don't have any other computers to try thats as old as this one.

Have you installed the port95nt.exe?

Nandpro can run without port95nt.exe but it simply wont detect any device. Anyway thats not really importend now. Why did you install the text printer driver? Maybe its interfering with the port95nt driver?

I read somewhere that it helped someone. But, I'll remove it and try again.

Removed it and still didn't help. Only thing I haven't done yet is shorten the J1F1 wires and add 100-ohm resistors to the other wires, but I really don't see resistors helping the cause... Can anyone verify that they have done this with a computer running Windows 2000?

Im pretty sure windows 2000 isnt the problem. Majinsoftware confirmed windows 95/98/ME working so i would search somewhere else. Have you tried turning the diode?

No, I haven't. I'll try messing with the diode and wires and post back with my results.

I have exactly the same problem (tested all possible solution like you).

The more old pc is a 1,5/1,6 ghz, so i think it's the problem.

Tomorrow i'll test with another box someone given me, if that don't work, the pc is the problem, if that work, i burned something on my box when i first soldered the ltp (inverted some wire). Also i wait the electronic part for make the usb solution (lpc-h2148)

I haven't really looked into the USB connection at all, does the age of the computer matter if you are doing it that way? Because I've exhausted all my options and it's still not working for me using the DB25 connector, so I think I may either wait until a better solution is found, or try USB.

With usb, the age of the computer is not important, it's why i do this for the last solution

I'll have to look into that then. It really bugs me to not be able to do this hack on any of my Xenon XBOX 360s. I'm the kind of guy who has to succeed at everything I try. Thanks for the information as always!
