Newbie-ish Question

You will need to flash your xbox dvd drive with ixtream firmware.

1.51 for hitachi
1.6 for all other

with 1.6 firmware you can rip games with any drive (via half open tray boot aka 0800 mode)

Or you can buy a kreon drive which plugs stright into the computer and is basicly a normal dvd drive.

Then software wise you need

XBC (xbox backup creator)
Which is free, google for it.

Just check your rips with abgx, And any firmware should be able to read any rip aslong as its correct (passes abgx test)

Just wave 3 games wont work on firmware below 1.51

I can't find the edit button but I think I will use a sony "optiarc".  It is the modern version of the older NEC drives that should booktype properly.  That is I know that imgburn sets the optiarc to DVD-ROM by default.

Why dont you buy a sata2usb dongle instead of the ck3? The ck3 is a big waste of money imo if you only wanna flash a hitachi. Sata2usb only works on hitachi's drives so if your planning on flashing more drives in future it would be better to buy the ck3 couse it supports all drives. You got no sata ports on your pc?

It doesnt matter how old the motherboard is. It wil work if it has a compatible chip set like VIA,INTEL,NFORCE.
