Warning Serial Data Is Bad
« Reply #15 on: April 12, 2009, 04:02:00 PM »

Well Yesterday I have tried an LED between the DIY Probe and the drives ground and it lit up. The problem is that the CK3's usb is getting hot so i cannot use it and I am trying to connect it with RS232 to RS232 but nothing's happening. And I can only select COM1, its the only one that comes up

ok, you can select any com port, you can replace 1 with 3, 5 or any number.
get this thing, it works flawlessly with lite-ons.

the rs232 chip on the ck3 does run quite warm, if its really hot then its most likely screwed, there were some that got really hot and burned out i read in early ones but as you have connected power incorrectly you may have damaged it.

as for finding your com port look in device manager and it wil have the com port number next to it.
usually if using the pc's serial port it will be com 1, usb can be anything (com 5 for me)
if you have selected the wrong port or your serial port isnt set up right in the bios you will get the bad serial data error too.

with your drive playing dvd then its most likely ok and the key will still be there as long as you havent erased and written firmware to the drive.

actually it is a common problem in CK3 pros ;/ the pcb is somehow not robust enough for the Usb IC. Do you have any idea how I can do it using the serial cable cos I am really getting bored;/

get this, the only thing you have to do is install drivers and bridge rx(chip) and tx(xbox).
