Can An Nme2 Chip Cause My Elite To Overheat?
« on: February 03, 2020, 06:33:00 AM »

well I got it chipped at this store, and they gave me a one year warranty in case the chip should cause any problems. This was 6 months ago, and now my picture is all messed up. It's darker, I get some weird lines across the screen and it's like the colors blend together sometimes. It only happens sometimes though (more often than not though) and I know for sure it ain't my cable or my TV.

So I contacted the store and told them if the warranty would cover, and they said it only covers for things caused by the chip, and they thought this sounded like some overheating crap. So now I'm asking yall, if overheating is the case, CAN that be caused by the NME2 chip or is it definitely just the Xbox itself that caused it?

No, the chip wont cause the system to overheat.  You just got a bad system.   You wasted your money on a chip.  All 360 drive modchips are worthless.  Why pay for them when you can firmware flash for nearly free and have better protection with a hacked firmware?

because I was told my elite couldn't be firmware modded - only mod chips would work on the newer models. plus I heard firmware mods would wear out the xbox quicker than a mod chip would.

edit: but maybe overheating wasn't the problem. Somtimes now it says on my TV that there's no signal, so I don't get no picture at all. Isn't there any way the chip could have caused this problem - maybe if it isn't cause of overheating?

whoever told you that bullshit: kill him.
the mods do nothing different from the flash, except they patch the data into the data lines, while the flash is "like that" without needing any constant patching.

and no, you have an upcoming RROD. the chip is in the drive, and couldn't fuck with the system even if it wanted to.

god damnit, so this cunt-store lied to me plus their bitchass warranty dont cover my shit. Damn.. so it's also a lie that new elite's can't be flashed?

Also, judging from what I said, what would yall guess is the problem? Overheating like the store said? if that's the case, is a repair expensive?

edit: I have an NTSC elite and I've been using a european power plug thing the whole time. this can't have anything to do with the xbox fucking up, could it? i mean it worked perfectly until a few days ago and since then it's been going down hill. my brother has an NTSC xbox also and also uses a danish power joint and he aint having no problems, so that shouldn't be the problem right?

overheating doesn't cause the RROD. in fact, if the console overheats, it goes into a special cooldown mode (black screen, 2 red LEDs, fans at max speed).
as for the power plug, the output of all power supplies is the same, no matter the input voltage. it makes no difference at all.
only the very newest systems (made in mid-april or later) have a liteon, which can in fact not be flashed. it can't be modded either for that matter.

Okay, so I can't neither flash or chip the newest systems? Cause I was considering buying a brand new one but I wanna be able to play my back-ups.

Also, I don't get those red rings. It's like the xbox behaves as it's always done except for the picture acting weird (and now disappearing). When I have picture the colors are a lot darker - some dark areas in games are almost impossible to see. It just looks very weird and a bit blurry. Does this sound like overheating to you? I dont have a clue but I'd like to know

It isn't overheating. You have broken solder joints under the GPU. It's a standard issue with the 360 and will show different symptoms, ranging from graphics errors to no function at all except for 3 red lights flashing at the front.

this sucks balls.. But it's not a whole lot of work to repair, right (if you know what you're doing of course)?
