Hitachi Modding? Worth It?
« on: December 24, 2007, 01:39:00 PM »

Hey,

I just bought a 360 a few days ago from Best Buy. It has a Hitachi drive, manufactured in October 2007.

I talked to a friend who does modding, and he told me to return the xbox to Best Buy and just get another one, something with a Toshiba or BenQ drive. He said he can only install a chip into the Hitachi drives, and at the end of January he would be able to do the firmware flash.

Anyways, I just want to be able to play on Live after modding. If I get the chip mod, I obviously will not be able to play on Live. So is it possible to flash the Hitachi drive? Or should I just exchange it?

I would exchange it, except I price matched a deal from Dell at Best Buy, and I got the Forza 2/Marvel Alliance, but also Halo 3 and a $120 HDMI cable free, all for $369.00. So if I go return the 360, I won't be able to get this deal again.

Last thing, I noticed that Toshiba/other drives can be modded with the new iXtreme 1.4 versions, but the Hitachi ones require iXtreme1.2, to play on Live. Won't this make the Hitachi ones more susceptible to bans, as it is an older version? I just don't want to get banned sad.gif

Thank you.
