It is possible, and there has been 1.6 support for quite some time now.... but anyways, Gentoox and Damn Small Linux support 480p on 1.6's (you must use Gentoox Loader or Cromwell in 480p mode as far as I know), which pretty much fixes the overscan issue. The only problem is that 640x480 is kinda small for a desktop, but it's still better than overscanned 480i. <
