I'm sure there is a way.  The easiest one is to have the code.  If not, even though it's a pain in the ass, at least know your folks care for you, and are trying in their own way (rightly or wrongly) to show they love you.  Go build a go-cart, ballista, catapult, boat, hovercraft, or whatever with your spare time : )
