Two Wire Trick - Resistor Question

Hi all,

The closest resistor I could get is a 1.1K ohm 1/4W.

Would this be suitable? - I know a resistor isnt required,only recommended but still dont want to muck it up

why use the 2 wire trick when there are much safer and easier methods around?
