How Do You Update To Higher Ixtreme Firmwares?

Hi,

In the past I got my xbox 360 modded with the ixtreme firmware (not sure which version) by some guy. He told me that I would have to update it whenever there was a new ixtreme firmware update so that I would be safe on xbox live. I would like to be able to update my console to ixtreme 1.2 firmware myself from home but I don't know where to start, what equipment I need, or where to download the firmware from. If anyone can help me with this by sending a step by step tutorial or very informative pointers I would very much appreciate it. My current drive is a Samsung.

Is that guide still good? It's been a while since I have modded my system and now my friend wants me to mod hiw newly acquired, while still be it old 360. I have Extreme 5.2 and my system still runs great, although i don't go on live. I was wondering if i should give him the same as mine or update it to whatever is available now. He does want to try live he says, so i looking for options. Also, is the process the same as before. I still have my VIA 6421 raid controller from before when i was doing the old MS25, 28's and Hitachi drives with slax. Have there been any newcomings? Any forums or postings I shuld check out? Thanks for your help.

phoenix316: yah dude textbook's pdf has been updated a couple times and i'm sure everything in there still works and is up to date.  There's been no real new breakthroughs or other tutorials lately (not as good as textbook's), so basically the only important new stuff is the new hacked fws, and i would definetely wait for the new xbox 360 dashboard to come out on dec. 4th for a newer fw
