Adjusting The Desktop Size In Xebian?
« on: February 10, 2005, 06:41:00 AM »

hi all

I have Xebian installed on my HDD, with the help of the great tutorial at the top of the page,  I have also installed KDE, which looks real good.....

the problem is that the desktop is just  bit to large for the TV screen and I cant see the tool bar at the bottom or any thing too close to the edge....  I tried dropping the resolution to the next lowest (540x430 or somthing) but Xebian locks up when I try to restart.......  640x480 looks great its just the missing edge that shits me...

can I adjust the screen size so I get get it to match the TV screen?

thanks

I had the same problem with my new 1.6 crystal xbox. If your xbox is a 1.6 then there is no fix for this problem. I sold my xbox 1.6 and got a 1.4, this solved the problem.

from what I have read in the forums the problem is something to do with the xcalibur graphics chip in the 1.6 xbox not being fully suported in linux.

You could set the resolution to 800x600 which helps a little, but the text is harder to read when you do this.

Are you sure this is possible on 1.6's? I use Gentoox, but I don't see how Xebian would be able to do 800x600 on 1.6's, but not Gentoox, I thought they were all using the same  code as far as video goes.

This is how I did it. Its not perfect, you will still see parts of the screen missing on the 1.6 and the text is hard for me to read. But here goes, this is how I did it.

click on terminal on the xebian desktop.
in the terminal window type: su enter, password: xebian enter.

You should now be signed in as user: root

Now type xedit enter

The xedit screen should appear.

at the top of the screen type: /etc/X11/XF86Config-4-xbox

now look down the screen and find:

SubSection "Display"
                Depth 24
                Modes "640x480"

Now change the above line to "800x600"     (including the quotes).

Now click on save at the top of the screen and reboot.
