Unreadable Disc After "successfully?" Modding Hitachi 46dh
« on: September 24, 2007, 09:21:00 AM »

Hi all,
I'm new to this modding 360s and these forums.  I finally finished flashing my drive yesterday.  I used the two wire trick to get my Hitachi 46DH into Mode B, then I managed to make it appear in windows.  I flashed it using IXtreme1.2_Rev2 in a dos command prompt.  It appeared to go successfully.  After putting everything back together I attempted to play one of my backups.  The disc span up for a while then stopped spinning.  Several clicking noises from the drive followed before "Unreadable Disc" finally appeared on the Dashboard.  It played originals fine.  Since then I have restored and reflashed my drive several times, once with Maximus Toolkit 4.0.  Still no success.  Is this likely to be a problem with my flashing, maybe the data isn't writing successfully?  Or is it a media problem?  I've spent some 12 hours trying to figure it out so far so any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Maybe a media problem.  Make sure you are creating your backups correctly and not forgetting a simple step and also make sure you use very good media such as Verbatim DVD-R DL

How long have you had the 360?

I had a similar issue where after the modding was successful the console would do as you described.

I had the drive cleaned by one of my friends and it worked a treat.

It appears that the newer firmware makes the disc spin faster and for the older drives causes them to struggle a read

Look for the tutorials on this site as to how you open the drive up and clean the lens and check the gears etc.

Usually that means your laser is weak and can't read the backup correctly.. I had a hitachi 47D that gave me the same problems I made 4 backups none work. I was about to give up on it but then I adjusted the pot settings and 1 backup booted but the drive died a short time later so I ordered another one from ebay and every backup works! best to just save all the trouble and order a new drive $50 at most. Oh all my backups made on Verbatim DL
