How Much Of The Data On 360 Games Is Encrypted?
« on: June 24, 2007, 09:59:00 AM »

If I wanted to go about extracting some sound files from a game on the 360 (Battlefield 2 Modern Combat) would this be possible?

I know the data is signed, but is it encrypted also?

Generally, very little data is encrypted - there's no big reason to in most cases, it would just make accessing the data slower. If all you want to do is pull data out of a 360 image, all you should need is understanding the format in which it's stored (the various container files, etc). Most stuff is signed/hashed/etc but that shouldn't prevent you doing what you seem to want (it's only an issue for replacing the files).

Could you suggest an app that will enable me to view the game data?

I've used Schtrom360Xtract to get at the game.iso but like you said without knowing the format I can't do much with it.

hi, i also had a question regarding this.

im quite familiar with the .arc and .hdr (archive + header) on guitar hero images. Although i do experience problems viewing offset/pointer information in the header file (containing .arc offsets).
The ps2 version has a plain text of the header file.  The 360 version seems to be encrypted/obsufcated.  As mentioned by torne it would be against normal iso standard i know of, to encrypt game content as 1. it would create more overhead in the system and etc.

If anyone could provide any suggestions/details that could cause this file to be either encrypted/obsufcate or how to read/hex edit the file appropriatly would be greatly appreciated (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Cheers,

edit: i use wxripper to uncompress the iso's to view game contents.
