As a matter of facts if you can flash a modified kernel with the exploit you're basically "in".
If you can execute unsigned code then you can develop anything, compile (some hacker will ever use the original X360DK, like someone used the original XDK for XBMC) and run, you're "in business".
The basic platform (architecture) is useful only when you've to deal with code snippets for optimizations or when you're forced to recycle already compiled code otherwise you can program for each and every platform you like, the C/C++ compiler will do the dirty stuff...

For 4552 people, purchasing an older kernel console now, even if drive is not compatible with current drive's firmwares, may be better, because it's possible that finding new drive firmware is easier than finding a new breach in future kernels. but with a lots of patience, can probably obtain everything. but after 3 or 4 years I bet a new console completely different will be released. I think hacking a console just accelerates the release of the following model... there is also the possibility that the game division of M$ never gets out of the red and that M$ just drops console and considers Vista as the replacement for online games through Live.

A great step forward, but not entirely practical for 99% of users.

Props too Crawler for all the hard work  smile.gif

I've only played on live on my friends 360. I think I remember him geting a prompt to update before he could connect to live.  Hopefully, as part of the development process someone investigates how to deny XBLs ability to update or game discs for that matter to insulate those of us who haven't updated so we could still play online.   As well as find another hole for those of you with blown fuses. Maybe a bigger 360 following will grow on kai. Off to find sys link games

Over 90 megs for a picture! Nice job. I have been waiting for someone to show in great detail where this resistor is and i got my wish alright!

So has anyone with the old kernel actually tried removing this resistor upgrading to latest kernel and then tried that trick that was posted ahwile back to downgrade the kernel? (or is it just speculation that this can be done?)

You can't corrupt the 4552 patch to downgrade the kernel.  It will give you E71 errors.  You have to dump your pre-4552 kernel, upgrade to 4552, and then to downgrade flash the pre-4552 kernel back on the NAND.
