Out Of Ideas, Please Help
« on: February 10, 2007, 09:03:00 PM »

Hey guys,
I've run into a little bit of trouble trying to flash my xbox 360 with Xtreme52. I've got a Toshiba Samsung MS25 and it's been previously flashed with a 4.x.x version. The reason i'm re-flashing it, is because i tried to run it on xbox live, but M$ made an update that checks the firmware (No doubt, you guys already know) and it now gives me an error, saying to contact customer support.

So i disassembled my xbox took out the drive and i've been trying for the past week to flash it again. During this time i have neither backed it up or re-flashed it, yet i am now able to get into the main tabs of the xbox screen, but still unable to play games (??).

Continuing on from that, for some reason, no matter how hard i try i cannot backup my drive. My motherboard can be found Here. I have gone through every tutorial and i've used every program and i still don't get anywhere.

I get to the point where:
1) I reboot my computer
2) Boot from floppy
3) Run "mtkflash r/m orig.bin" or "mtkflash r orig.bin"
4) Tells me to choose from the avialable drives (1 - 6, depending on if i fiddle with stuff in the bios)
5) I choose one of them (IDE Master, IDE Slave, Xtreme Master, Xtreme Slave)
6) Wait 10 seconds....
7) Nothing happens...wait longer.....
8) Nothing happens, so i press ESC and it says err userbreak, status = 73, should be 70

So basically, everytime i try to backup it doesn't do anything and i really can't think of anything else to do.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I've been trying for days with no success.

Aside from this, i don't quite understand how to flash the firmware with Xtreme52. It Xtreme33 there is a file called "Xtreme33.bin", but in Xtreme52 there isn't a specific file, there is folder("Fw") with a whole lot of bin files. Can someone explain how i'm supposed to flash it with this firmware in this case?

All help will be great appreciated.
Thanks for all your help guys

After the drive has been flashed with firmware of 4.XX and later, it becomes locked.  To disable this FirmGuard, you need to burn an enable0800.iso disk with ImgBurn or CloneCD.  The whole process is well detailed beginning on p. 50 of Textbook's tutorial, which  can be downloaded from here.  Read this carefully.  This tutorial will also answer some of your questions regarding the various versions of Xtreme 5.2 firmware found in the Fw folder.  Other questions you'll have may be answered here.  Good luck.

Thanks for the help, but i am still having trouble. I have run the enable 0800 disk in the drive (numerous ways) and there is no problem. My problem now, is that i cannot, for the life of me, flash this drive.

I obtained my original firmware, took the key, placed it into xtreme52D.bin and then tried flashing. In dos i've run all these commands (textbooks guide + numerous others):

1)mtkflash r orig.bin
2)mktflash r /m orig.bin
3)samread ??????? ?????
4)samhack ??????? ?????
5)mtkflash r /m/sata orig.bin

After i do any of these commands i get to choose the drive which are usually something like:

1)Master IDE ...something
2)Slave IDE...Something
3)Xtreme master
4)Xtreme slave

I've gone through this countless times, choosing everyone of them (usually xtreme master) and it just hangs there. I've tried turning of my xbox at certain times (as instructed by textbooks guide), i've tried disconnecting the sata cable and putting it back in. No matter what i do, it just hangs there and does nothing.
I've been trying to fix this damn thing for the past 6 days and i haven't gotten anywhere.

Any advice guys? I've tried everything with no result.

Thanks for any help provided!

Hey Noob

I encountered this exact problem a year ago, where mtkflash would work but the drive would not respond in dos.

Basiclly you need to run the 0800 disc, change the stata settings in the bios, pick master xtreme and leave the xbox on, if you want to chat in person we can meet at my store in brisbane city if you live in queensland and i can do it at the shop, if not via telephone as you need one on one instruction as it is very comphrehensive.

The problem you're having is that you have not successfully disabled the FirmGuard.  I was unable to do so by strictly following Textbook's tutorial either.  I myself found that I had to turn on the Xbox 360 with its drive connected via the SATA cable to my PC.  Then I boot my PC from the DOS boot floppy disk.  Then I open the Xbox 360's drive tray, insert the 0800 disk, close the tray, wait 10 seconds, open the tray, and remove the disk.  Leave the Xbox 360's power on.  If you turn it off, it simply will return to the FirmGuard enabled state.  Now, use the MKTFlash utility to do what you want to the firmware of the Xbox 360 drive.  It should respond.  As brisgamer said, be sure to select Master Xtreme, not the slave, and not either of the Master or Slave IDE choices (technically, your IDE drives should have been disabled/disconnected prior to booting from the DOS boot floppy disk, but even if they haven't, you'll be fine as long as you select Master Xtreme).

Thanks for the help, but still no go. I've disconnected both my c & d drive from my computer, aswell as my disk drives. Now it won't even detect my drive in dos mode when i boot from usb, it won't come up as xtreme master or slave, however, if i go into the bios and auto detect it, THERE IT IS!!
Any advice guys??

I also need some answers to these questions:

1)When i burnt the enable0800 disk i used Alcohol120%, I went to image burning wizard and selected the iso and burn't, no problems. Can this be a problem? I mean, it doesn't matter what program i burn the iso with, as long as its burnt the appropriate way, right?

2)I've disconnected all my drives, would this affect detecting the drive? I don't see why it should, any ideas??

3)Most Importantly - Can anyone check my motherboard (link is in the first post of this thread) and tell me whether its compatible or do i need something. Also with this motherboard, are there any specific things i need to set in the bios?

Sorry about the bombardment of questions, but i'm just about to throw this brick out the window.

Thanks guys.

You see the problem with having 2 accounts and forgetting who you are logged on as results in the above posts.
Always best to sign back on in a different name to the one you are replying.
I am removing  all three of your accounts now as you have some personality disorders you may want to get worked out.
