Booting Xboxdash.xbe From The 360hdd
« on: January 28, 2007, 07:22:00 PM »

Theres a section on the 360 HDD in a partition, an folder called emulator, it has xboxdash.xbe in there aswell as all files to run it....

Burn a copy of halo 2 ss patched an whatever to run on the 360 via the firmware mod, but before burning h2, set it up so when u go to xbox live update, it actually loads a directory on the 360 itself... the xboxdash.xbe from the 360 hdd...

It's a crazy idea.. but you never know, you might get it to boot... if it links to content on the hdd it will boot...

In theory this would work....

Are you saying that as long as it links to the content on the HDD even though it is burnt to a CD? Chances are this won't work, as it will try to read off the CD, but there's a possibility it will work.

Or are you talking about taking the entire Emulator folder? Because chances are that would work better.

On the xbox1, the dvd drive in the file structure was referred to as a partition..

So really, if it is setup the same as on the 360, linking to the data may work... but then again, you could grab the entire emulator folder from the 360 & put it on with the game in a directory, so it links to the xboxdash.xbe an theres a possibility it will actually work & boot the old dash...

Is anyone able to try this?

Sounds valid to me  smile.gif I'd attempt it, but I don't own a 360 at the moment. Anyone willing to give this a go?

From what I've found out,

I extracted the oem xbox dash files from the 360, & i'm going to attempt to run them on an oem xbox an see if they boot etc...

\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\Compatibility\dash\xboxdash.xbe

and the link file

\Device\Harddisk0\SystemPartition\Compatibility\xbox.XEX CRC:ea5d689c

I own a program that can dissasemble .x86 files, but can also dissasemble .xbe's. The program is IDA, and can be found here: http://www.datarescue.com/

I was going to see what was contained in the .xbe's.

Anything useful there?!? This is just the first bit, the rest is all the LAN keys an stuff...

Cheers
MaT

EDIT:
File masks to say what it will boot on... (yes there editable & saveable)
(IMG:http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/341/filemaskts1.jpg)

(IMG:http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/1615/rawkeylx0.jpg)
and this is the .xex's raw key... Is this useful for anything at all?!?

........ In theory... Is it possible to make a .img file boot content on the hdd?!? or something similar...

If you can modify the .xex for a game, so instead of it booting from dvd, to make it boot from hdd, dump the game on the hdd & have something load it...

Possible?!?!?

Very interesting.....I wonder if thats because the disk is genuinly unreadable, or because the 360 rejects it?
