Google Image search USB JTAG and you'll get quite a few pictures.  Some of them have huge LTP-style connectors, but you'll find a few look similar to what could be connected to this 360.

That's my guess as to what it is.

probably not fake, but shade "hack" , common it doesnt really give any kind of opportunitys for a real hack.
unix/mac os running on the 360 sounds like a dream, we want XBMC360! i dont give a crackers about linux, if i wanted linux i would buy an computer for that purpose insted!

I want real proof, and explanations "how it works". not some crackt up guy on a video!

Has the footage from the 1-hour presentation titled "Console Hacking 2006" been release? If you remember fromm the Google Tech Talk video, the presenter mentioned the C3 conference and an hour long Console Hacking presentation. Just wondering if anything interesting happened there.

To get something like XBMC360 running there would first need to be access to the official 360 XDK. Or someone would have to write fully working linux drivers for the gpu & video hardware. I don't see either happening very soon.

Also, if this is actually a debug box I'm curious if this hack (if true) is even relevant to real homebrew. Usually the JTAG circuits are blown on retail machines.

edit:
the irc server/channel at the end he is saying is
irc.freenode.org
#23c3

There doesnt seem to be much going on in that channel, but there are some silly germans teasing folks that are coming by asking ???s. One said member in the channel is "DeViLs360."  I'm not sure if this is the same guy from the previous scandal, just a thought.

DeViLs360 is "DeViLs360" ([email protected])

i dont know if this is possible or anything but couldnt you possibly use the jtag interface to run some sort of code that can read the m$ signature code from within the console?

The public key which is used to check if the game/program is signed is inside the console, but the key to actually sign the programs isn't, so if I understood your question right, no, it's not possible.

Guess how fucked MS would be if this was true smile.gif Good that I have one from the Europe's first batch of 360's smile.gif

if you go to the schedule on the conference site you will find this:

"The XBox360 was live hacked in front of the audience - running Linux and Mac OS coming soon. Stay tuned - a Linux kernel is already booting.. "

Ok since most of you guys live in the states and have not really a clue what the ccc is, here a short explaination:
THe ccc is the real thing. To give you one example what they have done would be that they were the first to "crack" your sweet little fingerprint identification system you have at every airport in the us. The give computer and philosophical advise to the german government. I would cosider them more as a group of freely thinking people rather than plain hackers. They also discuss ethical questions about computers and computer related things...
It would be more than embarrassing for the ccc if this was just a hoax
So if this is from a ccc convention then there will be more soon...
Believe in the Germans ;-) (not to be taken wrongly ;-) )

what i dont understand is how does the console know if it is legitimately signed, wouldnt it have to have a copy of the "top secret", non public key, to compare it to?

Nope. RSA doesn't work that way. There's the private key used to sign stuff, and the public key used to check the signature of the stuff.

to me it looked like it took a long time for that screensaver of the linux icon to boot , and u see him fiddleing in the back , who knows if he didnt hook up the projector to a computer? What he did proves nothing , it was nothing more then a screensaver.
