I'm Having Problems With Via Vt6421a Card
« on: December 29, 2006, 09:56:00 PM »

OK, so I installed this VIA VT6421A card that I got from this guy online. He gave me an unreadable scratched up cd which was supposed to contain all of the drivers on it. Rather, I downloaded and installed the drivers from this site:

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageI...mp;SubCatID=117

I have a Hitachi Drive version 59JB.

Now, I tried using the slax method to get my xbox into modeB but it did not work so I successfully got it into modeB using the two wire method.

I started up my PC and hit eject several times on the windows loading screen.

My drive was recognized in windows but not as a Hitachi drive...it was recognized as a general DVD-ROM drive.

I tried to flash the drive but it kept saying it couldn't flash it.

I suspect that hte problem is wit this damn SATA card...can anyone help me with the error code that Windows is giving me with an exclamation mark in device manager under "VIA VT6421 RAID Controller":

"This device cannot start (code 10)"

For "D347PRT SCSI Controller" it doesn't give an problem.

Also, I use DOS command prompt to flash the drive rather than any toolbox if that helps.

THANKS

Hello,

Lucky for you I have the same card and had the same problem. All I had to do in the end was to remove and re-seat my SATA card into my pc. Seems that with this card it is easy to cock it up and it wont connect properly into the PCI slot. This usually happens when tightening the securing screw. I had the error code 10. This is most likely your problem. Try it out.

Hope this helps,

Later Sonky

Ok well I removed the card and reseated it making sure to push down very hard while reseating and screwing it in and I still have the problem.

What is weird is that it seems that Windows recognizes the card but can't do much with it.

sonky: Could you tell me exactly what you did as in what drivers you downloaded/installed, what settings you changed in bios and etc?

Do/Did you have RAID turned off or on...and if off - how did you do that?

Also, did you plug the 360 into the back SATA port or the side one?

I'm frustrated with this problem and I don't think i'll find the solution before I decide to unhappily buy another SATA card.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to move the card into another PCI slot hoping that will work.

THANKS for the help so far though.

Alright I'm about to try it now...I believe these are the steps you are referring to:

1. Uninstall drivers using driver cleaner
2. Shut off PC
3. Put card in different PCI slot
4. Start PC and reinstall drivers

THANKS i'll try it

BTW, the external port obviously did not work...I am not sure this is going to work either.

Alright well this is what I just did:

1. Uninstalled the card from windows

2. Shut off the PC

3. Switched the SATA card from the one PCI slot to the next (I put it into the slot that had my audio card on it, which I knew worked)

4. Started windows up

5. Windows reinstalled drivers

6. Rebooted windows

7. No exclamation mark was found

8. Restarted the PC with the slax CD in and it continued giving me the same error:
"Checking ata1: Slow to respoind...please be patient"

It could not find any ata slots for some reason as usual.

I have not tried with the xbox but there is very little chance that it will work since slax can't even find the ata slot.

Also, the exclamation mark only comes when I boot into windows with the 360 hooked up to the sata port on the PCI SATA card.

Do I have to disable RAID or something...if so...how????

Please help because I am extremely frustrated and I don't know what to do.

THANKS
