Detect Id - I/o In Xbm
« on: November 16, 2006, 03:58:00 AM »

Klutsh said I get this error as my system won't allow MS32INFO to run.

I manged to get MSINFO32 running from CMD after doing this...

Step I - End the Help and Support services

Click Start, click Run and type Taskmgr and click OK. This opens Task Manager. Click the Process tab. Stop all of the following processing if running:

* helpsvc.exe
* helphost.exe
* helpctr.exe

Step II - Reinstall Help and Support

* Click Start, click Run and type CMD, and click OK.
* In Command Prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each line: (Alternately, create a Batch file and run.)

net stop helpsvc
cd /d %windir%\pchealth\helpctr
rd packagestore /s /q
rd installedskus /s /q
cd binaries
start /w helpsvc /svchost netsvcs /regserver /install
start /w helpsvc /register

but XBM still throws up the error as before. Where can I find the ID/IO values for my VIA chipset in MS32INFO? This is what I see...

Name VIA VT6421 RAID Controller
Manufacturer VIA Technologies, Inc.
Status OK
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\4&19FD8D60&0&40F0
I/O Port 0x0000DC70-0x0000DC7F
I/O Port 0x0000DC50-0x0000DC5F
I/O Port 0x0000DC30-0x0000DC3F
I/O Port 0x0000DC10-0x0000DC1F
I/O Port 0x0000D8E0-0x0000D8FF
I/O Port 0x0000D400-0x0000D4FF
IRQ Channel IRQ 17
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\viamraid.sys (5.1.2600.410, 59.25 KB (60,672 bytes), 15/11/2006 16:55)

EDIT: I was just messing around with XBM and I ticked "Use custom MTKFlash" before selecting the firmware bin file. I selected my D34PTR SCSI Controller and did "Detect ID/IO" and it said "this device is not compatible with MTKFlash" so I then selected VIA VT6421 RAID Controller from the list, hit detect and the values came up in less then a second.

Device ID: 11063249
I/O Port: DC70DC30

could this be all good?

Yes. Why did you even try the selecting SCSI Controller, haha?

lol because whenever i selected the via chipset for io/id detection, it would say 'unable to parse' etc and klutsh told me it was because my system wasn't allowing ms32info to run. i did a rebuild on MS Windows Help & Support Center which allowed me to run ms32info from CMD but XBM still gave me the unable to parse error so i decided to have a mess around and it looks like it paid off  tongue.gif

problem... via chipset is detected in windows but when i boot into dos, it does not appear as option number 3, any help?

i know another drive does not need to be connected as boke's hexedit removes the need for a mtk-based drive. any help?

Try disconnecting or disabling (in the bios) any ide drives that are connected and see if that helps......

ok well i read this...

"Check the IRQ Assignments in your BIOS. I found that the slot I had my card in was discretely attached to two other devices. Hence, if I switched the IRQ number all 3 would change. I saw that my sound card was the only device with a unique IRQ number, so I switched pci slots with the sound card (giving the sata card a unique IRQ), disabled all my IDE devices, started it back up and voila"

i checked my own IRQ assignments and not one device has a unique number so i was thinking, i will disable all my IDE devices (except for the diskette drive as that is where i'm booting from) and just hope for the best?
