The original MTKflash does need hexing.  My hexed MTKflash (Mtkflash183c_ALIM5283.rar) for the Newlink 2-Port Serial-ATA PCI Card (1-Int / 1-Ext) can be downloaded from Megaupload.com by surfing to http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H7DZT8T6.  Follow the link, enter the three letters it shows into the edit field and press the adjacent 'download' button.

Works fine with extreme boot maker when choosing the chipset & asking it to grab the values & auto hex editing MTKflash.
